Roger Clemens Clears Up Why He Didn't Play Baseball This Season

Most of you probably assumed that the reason Roger Clemens wasn't part of a major league team this season was because of the Mitchell Report. Or the gargantuan salary demands he makes to play for a couple of months. Or perhaps the mediocre results he turned in as a Yankee in 2007. It was none of the above, however. Roger didn't play because Roger didn't want to play.
"Right now, I don't have the desire to do so. I'm enjoying what I'm doing, the number of things I'm doing around town, just enjoying that. I don't know if I will ever say no. I would have to know that I could perform at a high level and that my body would be able to hold up."
And let's just get this straight, the reason I didn't play for a major league team this season is because I didn't have the desire to play a game for millions of dollars. Don't believe anyone who tells you that my fastball isn't even batting practice level or that my foot speed is generously described as glacial.

Anyone waiting for Rocket's retirement ceremony shouldn't hold their breath.
"I think I said that a long time ago that I'm not a quitter. I'm never going to quit. I think I'm just going to walk away. I think I will never be too far from the game."
While I'm not sure of the distinction between quitting and walking away, I am sure that the game's made it clear that they can't get far enough away from Clemens.
