It's always been a tradition that, before the first game of the World Series, each team is introduced to the crowd and television audience watching at home. Not just the starters, either, I mean the entire team. Starters, reserves, pitchers, coaches, trainers, the guy who washes the jockstraps, everybody. Well, you may have noticed that things were a bit different this year.
Before Game 1, only the starters were introduced on television because apparently Fox asked MLB if they could shorten the introductions. Well, this upset quite a few members of the Phillies, including veterans Matt Stairs and Jamie Moyer, who have been waiting a long time for that moment.
"It's disappointing and some guys were extremely mad about it," Stairs said early Friday evening after the team's workout at Citizens Bank Park. "I think it's bootleg when you have the World Series and guys are jogging out to the line and they don't take the extra five minutes to introduce the players."Stairs did not enjoy it as much as he loves getting his ass hammered, and I don't blame him. Since when is Fox concerned with time when it comes to its World Series broadcasts? I'm pretty sure they have a rule that won't allow a game to end before midnight on the East Coast, so they throw in extra Taco Bell and House promos to fill time.
The Phillies are actually asking the player's union to petition MLB to allow them to introduce all the players before Game 3 tonight. Whether or not MLB and Fox will appease them, we'll just have to tune in and see.

I agree with the Phillies on this. Maybe the jock strap washer doesn't need to be introduced, but certainly all of the players and the manager should be introduced. This is the World Series and all of the players on the Phillies and the Rays helped get their respective teams there. FOX needs to reexamine their priorities.

Totally agree with the Phillies...most of these guys will never get this opportunity again and EACH of them contributed to get this team where they are. Fox sucks. Their broadcast sucks, they make bad decisions and why the hell are all the games on SO late? Kids can't stay up to watch and adults suffer from staying up until 12:30am or so and then having to get up at the crack of dawn to go work. I really wish ESPN would buy the rights so there wouldn't be any "issues" with working around a regular broadcast schedule...I am assuming this is why Fox chose the 8pm slot. God forbid we miss some of their super crack TV shows.

Giving as it was a first for NFL, the best introduction I have ever heard was "choosing to be introduced as a team, the NE Patriots" If the Sox ever get back to the WS, I hope they do the same.

Yeah the whole thing is BS and fox really needs to get rid of that arrogant Tim McCarver. He never shuts up and tbs should give up sports all together. how bout that nice F-up with their sattelite transmission during red sox & rays great job took em about 10 min. to let us know about technical difficulties. anyway just venting...Red sox fan rooting for Phillies.....
