When a regular city wins a championship, they celebrate. When Philadelphia wins one, they burn the city down. Philly Riots chronicles a city finally pushed over the edge.Google has this awesome laboratory thing (Trends) going on where they tell you what's hot and spicy in the internet world. Clocking in at number three today? "Phillies Parade." And number five? "Phillies World Series Parade."
That's right, the city of Philadelphia and its denizens of wonderful Philly fans are getting a touch premature with their celebration plans. It's kind of understandable, but only in the way in which the Chicago Cubs were talking about what it would be like to win a World Series this year ... before the postseason started.
See, Philadelphia is up 3-1 in the World Series. They have Cole Hamels heading to the mound with a chance to close out the Rays and bring home a title to a championship-starved town. But still, folks, you might want to simmer.
For instance, "I've Made a Huge Tiny Mistake," a Phillies blog, is doing the smart thing and asking all of you Philly Phans to STOP GOOGLING WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP PARADE PLANS.
But I doubt that will happen, so you might as well get some gratification for your intense work counting chickens before they've hatched. So here's what we can tell you: while no plans for an official parade have been announced, the city of Philadelphia is pretty much designed to have a parade up Broad Street. I'm guessing said parade would start down by the sports complex and trek all the way up to Center City, where the ceremonies will probably halt at City Hall for speeches, applause, more rioting, and other forms of pomp and circumstance. Again, this is just a guess, because nothing has been won yet.
I get that Hamels is essentially infallible (and gorgeous to boot), but that doesn't make jumping the gun and planning out a mid-week celebration with only a two game lead is by any means an intelligent decision. It's brash, it's arrogant, it's chock full of jinx material and, well, actually, it's exactly what I expect from Philly fans at this stage of the game. So, yeah, party on.
Post-Championship Update: 46 hours later, the Phillies are on top of the baseball world and a parade route has been set. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter announced the parade will take place Friday at noon, going from 20th and Market Streets south on Broad Street to the sports complex where the Phillies, Eagles, Flyers and 76ers play.
One other note: if you're planning on taking the kids to the parade, you're going to have to pull them out of school. Philadelphia public schools will not be shutting down in celebration of the Phils' title.

No worries. I don't think we are taking anything for granted here in the City of Brotherly Love. Most who live and work here are googling just to see what is planned to adjust work, driving, day care, parking etc. scheduels accordingly. You'd have to live here to know, but an influx into the downtown business communtiy like we would have for a parade will require a lot of folks to zig where they would normally zag. The burning the city line is a bit gratuitous though. We don't have enough of a history with champtionship parades to say much of anything about them, but the few we have had have been boistrous, not violent.

Yes, parade information is premature, but several people work in life/safety and must prepare for Phillies finest. Generally the more information . . . the better prepared one is.

I think this Phillies team is ready for the big one this year. When the big sticks are a little off, we still have plenty of talent to support them. WHAT A TEAM!!!

I will be brash and arrogant enough to tell you that tomorrow I will be smiling as you are forced to eat your words. It's exciting, we are having fun and enjoying this ride so get over it. We are simply trying to make our plans to be able to attend the parade and show our pride in our team. Really get over it.

I'm not trying to put the jinx on, but I feel really good about Cole tonight and it would be awesome to win it in Philly.
I'm lucky in that my boss is a big Phils phan, and told me that we can shut down the office and all go (we're right in CC).
Bring it home boys.

When would the parade potentially be? In other words IF we win tonight, would the parade be on Wednesday? Basically I need to make it back home (from Florida) in time to be on Broad St. If anyone has a clue what the protocol is PLEASE let a huge Phils fan know

I highly doubt they will have the parade the day after the World Series closes.
Seeing as how the game won't end until midnight, we're looking at the earliest Wed. but more than likely (I'd guess) on Friday or Saturday. But who knows, I guess it could be the day after, either way we need a parade here in Philly.

So, when exactly did these riots happen?? You may have your cities confused...it never happened in Philly!
In 1980 the parade was the next day, however, this game will be getting over much later then the 1980 series, so if they win
tonight the parade should be Wednesday. They like to do it as soon as possible...
GO PHIL'S!!!

I guess I am as guilty of this as anybody but I believe that when you are this close, you have to be prepared for any eventuality that may come. I know the City is thinking the same thing - though they obviously can't say it for fear of a jinx. Should they not have Champagne ready in the Locker Rooms tonight, nor have the T-Shirts and Hats already to go because it may not Happen?
I don't think so.
Anybody who says they do not have this on their mind is booking a Cruise up that River in Egypt.
With all this team has been through last year and this, I do not think a "jinx" of people one win away from a Huge Party, is going to derail this Train.
If it does we can just blame MLB .

Why do we get NO RESPECT ? Most experts picked us to lose in 5 or 6 games and now that they see we're in control, all they wanna talk about is how we will destroy the city?? Come on now.. This is the City of Brotherly Love Baby!! Thjis is a time for LOVE amongst all races, religions, and ages! This is the time for us to have a Party no matter what you SO-CALLED experts say. We will close this out and will have a long awaited Party!!! We don't need your approval and we don't need your permission!
GO PHILS !!!

Hi good luck from Boston
the reason why we have a dozen or more colleges /universities in and around Fenway park/ Boston. Our downtown and area a mile or two is loaded with college kids. That is who you see causing problems. The have been drinking from the start of the game if not the night before. 90 0/0 of those arrested were from out of state. Its sad normal people cannot go downtown and celebrate because these kids ruin it for the real fans. We never have a problem with the parades because most of these kids are in school or hung over. I never understand how parents or the schoo;s allow on and off campus drinking with its against the law. Nothing ever happens to these kids.. A small fine but if its your car or business damamged too bad. You have to file a insurance claim.
