When a regular city wins a championship, they celebrate. When Philadelphia wins one, they burn the city down. Philly Riots chronicles a city finally pushed over the edge.Just when you think Philadelphians can't be any more whacked out about their sports teams, just when you start to believe that maybe this whole Philly World Series thing will be kind of calm, well, some guy decided to go and rob a bank in order to purchase Phillies merchandise.
But one fan may have taken his devotion a bit too far when police say he robbed a bank and later allegedly funded a shopping spree for Phillies gear with the stolen cash.Nothing says "staying classy" like hijacking a bank in order to hop on a bandwagon. No, seriously, there's nothing cool about breaking the law just to pretend your a Phillies fan because they're winning the World Series.
About 10 a.m. yesterday, a man, who police did not identify, entered a PNC Bank on Welsh Road near Roosevelt Boulevard and slipped the teller a demand note.
[...]About 20 minutes later, cops found the suspect, who police have not identified, a few miles away coming out of the Modell's Sporting Goods store at the Roosevelt Mall, Cottman and Bustleton avenues.
Also, what makes a guy think that this is somehow going to improve his life in any fashion? And, alternately, if you're going to rob a bank, don't you immediately get as far away from said bank as possible and then use the cash to purchase a ticket to the game? Classy and smart.

How'd you like to sit next to that guy in the picture with the whistle around his neck? Is that sign for the Phillies or the beer man?

Did you actually say "Bandwagon"? After the entire nation acted like they weren't laughing at the Rays for the past 15 years? The people of Tampa Bay just realized they had a team! You're an idiot.

You are an idiot, and your writing is classless drivel. I was at Broad and Chestnut last night. The scene was mostly jovial with a few jack@sses, As is the case in ALL celebrations. How soon we forget Boston almost burned down Kenmore square, they set cop cars on fire, threw bricks at police and a young student was killed (yes KILLED) in what was accurately called a "riot". In light of that debacle, Phillies fans were pretty subdued.

Philly fans definetly have been waiting for this championship. Maybe not enought to justify theft when you can easily buy championship gear at places like http://www.phillieschampionshipgear.com but it isn't too far from that.

You were the idiot that wrote about phillies fans planning a premature celebration. Yer the idiot who has been trying to tank the phillies cause yer team didn't get to enjoy a championship. Tough luck. Instead of being a jerk like joe buck Say way to go. We have earned the title of WORLD CHAMPIONS. Stop being a sore sports man and give credit where credit is due instead of bashing over some trivial thing. We are a proud sports city. Remember Montreal when they nearly leveled the city. Things could have been like that. Come to philly and we'll show you passion. That is what you lack by writting this garbage. Ps. My wife never liked any sports. We watched the whole playoffs together and last night she was jumping up and down for our phillies. She became a phillies fan cause the team is classy and she loves em now and forever.

Brinson is a D-bag. There were no riots, and the city did not almost burn down. Sure there were a few nitwits, but nothing like Brinson the D-bag said.

The photo in this article is a photo of my brother, taken by some press guy up at Cottman and Frankford last night. The celebration was joyous, not violent. They're pulling this photo for all kinds of articles... I'm finding it all over the internet! You're always gonna have the idiots who get too drunk, break the law, etc, but the VAST majority of us Phillies fans are simply pumped, ecstatic over out VICTORY, happy about being the CHAMPIONS. This article is very insulting. You call Philly fans "whacked out" and imply that we want to burn the city down? Have a cheesesteak and a soft pretzel and get over yourself.
THANK YOU PHILLIES!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!
And why don't you find a photo that depicts something violent instead of using a press photo of a HAPPY, PEACEFUL celebration?? just a thought...

I am sure the guy who wrote this wasn't even on the East Coast, let alone Philly. When something this big happens, the celebration is going to be big, and yea, your gonna have a few jackasses who try to take advantage of the situation and pull this crap. But it wasn't mass rioting; there were probably 300,000 fans packing the streets, and less than 100 people who went out and caused trouble...and most of them were doing it because they saw someone else do it first. I was out on Broad and Sansom, where some stuff happend, but it wasn't as bad as people from OUTSIDE Philly made it out to be
