When a regular city wins a championship, they celebrate. When Philadelphia wins one, they burn the city down. Philly Riots chronicles a city finally pushed over the edge.
Alternate title, if only the gag weren't overused: Phillies Phans Phlip Cars Phor Phun!
In the light of day, with the hangover subsiding and memories from before blacking out re-entering the consciousness, a lot of fans in Philly are realizing just how stupid they acted last night. Sadly, too many fans cross the line from "just plain dumb" to "just plain cruel." It's dumb to climb an extremely tall traffic sign; it's cruel to try maiming a guy climbing said sign by chucking a bottle of vodka at his face. Or, like the video above: it's dumb to jump on some stranger's car, but it's downright cruel to flip it completely over. (via WW & PWD)
Then again, who leaves their car on the street when everybody in the country was predicting a riot? As seen on LBS, fans would have been safer had they simply taken the subway:
Of course, what that video didn't show was that someone ended up lighting the train on fire, sending it hurtling through the darkness to its next stop like a comet of death.* Yay Phillies! Yay senseless violence and vandalism!
* This may or may not have happened but is within the realm of possibility.

The hooligans who joined into the celebration with the express purpose of mischief were not Phillies fans. We had over 5,000 fans in Manayunk, 5-10,000 in center city, 5,000 at Frankford and Cottman. The few bad apples as usual ruin it for the many and give our city an undeserved bad name.

Tell me what city doesnt do this when they win a championship in a long time? Boston goes nuts every year for their crap, but Philly has the label since we snowball Santa. 76 arrests out of all those people partying isnt bad I think. You need to get your head outta your ass and think twice before you start bad mouthing cities

I was at the Philadelphia Academy of Music to see the ballet last night when the Phillies won. When the performance was over I walked out of the Academy onto Broad street which was completely closed to traffic and people were crying and hugging each other and shouting Phillies... but there was NO violence. I then had to drive from center city to Chestnut Hill, this meant trying to get around the Broad Street shut down. People helped me, and all along the route there were people cheering and waving Phillies signs. Again, NO VIOLENCE. Where does all this ugly talk about Philadelphia come from. In Boston fans actually killed someone post victory -- here we had families with children lined up along the roads banging on pots and pans and waving Phillies signs. It couldn't have been more benign. Go Phillies!!

I am so sick and tired of reporters around the country always putting down philly sports fans. They never print anything positive, only the negative. Every city has fools that take advantage of a moment to be destructive. Look at Detroit and Seattle. These people would be destructive even if there wasn't a victory celebration. Why not write" 20,000 fans celebrate in the streets, police report only 76 arrests." I guess you couldn't report that or people around the country would see how great and passionate we are. We support our teams, win or lose. If we didn't we wouldn't have 4 major sports teams, AHL, lacrosse, soccer, and arena football in our town. Our fans have contributed millions to sports related charities,as well as giving to food, coat, toy, book, shoe, used and new sport equipment drives, and anything else our teams ask us to support. I, along with everyone else in Philly, am proud to be a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan. Yes, we are passionate because we are knowledgeable of the sports we boo and cheer for. We're sorry the series didn't turn out the way you wanted it to Mr. Watson, but a lot of your reporting is overexagerated. Such a shame, because we're PHeeling PHANTASTIC!!!!!!!

Hmmm. Guess you three didn't watch the video of people jumping on that red car and eventually turning it upside down. Duh! Unfortunately, bunch of punks (women included) who have no respect for someone else's property. When that stuff goes on the news wires, the rest of the nation sees it. That's why people may be down on your beloved Philadelphia. Get your act together!

I am 50 years old and was celebrating on the streets after the game with a friend and brought my dog. I saw a few arrests out of thousands of people. Everyone was excited and the spirit was great.i plan on going to the parade at noon also because I had such a great time. Your articles are all about sensationalism rather than truth.

We have just endured the most biased commentators fox had to bash the team night after night. You would have thought there was only one team playing if not for thier cuts about our team. The team had the fans though, and the players and manager all thanked the fan's. They were the 10th man in the line up. I am not quite sure why every one from outside the city feels the need to judge us, hate us so much to cause them to write such things. Jealousy ???? It does not matter because an opinion is just that, an opinion. Like the saying goes, we all have them. I suggest this writer come to the city and spend some time here and get to understand what a fan is. I also find it interesting that of the hundreds of thousands of people who left thier warm homes to celebrate in the streets responsibly
he chose this footage. He must work for Buck and McCarver who were so upset that the Philles won that they continued after the game was over. When 2 million people parade today, maybe just maybe this writer will have second thought's on indicting a whole city for the behaviour of a few
