It was only a matter of time before David Wright was asked about the Phillies, and the entire NL East for that matter, hating the Mets' guts, especially after the Phillies rode their Mets hatred to a World F'n Championship. Well, not that he sounded too convincing, but Wright returned serve."I don't like those guys," Wright said. "I know they don't like us. There are guys that I respect on that team. I respect them, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I'm going to be friends with them. My whole career, I've tried to stay away from that. I'll shake somebody's hand and say hello, but I'm not going to be buddy-buddy with anyone before the game.Far from a blanket statement. Sounds like Wright was kinda nudged into saying that. Besides, it's not like Wright's bitter or anything. Far from it.
"I'm not a big fan of the teams in our division just because we play them so much. I would hope as a competitor that you would have that edge, that you would have a genuine interest to go out there and beat them by as much as you can."
"As far as the Phillies winning, I'm not bitter about it," Wright said. "I'm disappointed that we didn't cash in on the opportunity to get into the playoffs. It's something where they deserve it. They played their best baseball at the right time of the year, and that's something we weren't able to do the last two years. It's a simple formula. It's the dancing. It's all the dancing. Stop dancing. Then you'll win a World Series.
"This might be the optimistic side for me, but it makes it more of an attainable goal for us. Seeing a team from your division that you've played 18, 19 times, that you've played well against, go on to win the World Series, it hits a little closer to home.
"It's a silver lining. It's a positive. But that was my first thought when the Phillies won the World Series. I was like, 'Wow, a team from our division going on to win the World Series.' So why not us? Why can't we do that?"
Not that I subscribe to that, but Mitch Williams said it, so it must be true, right? But hey, the Phillies are world champions. So why would they care anything about what David Wright says, right? They wouldn't use this as motivation ... I mean, why would they?
Oh, who am I kidding, they're probably already feeling disrespected. I'd be willing to bet that the very picture of Wright raising his hand attached to this post is already up in Shane Victorino's locker right now.

I can understand why David Wright does not like the Phillies. Because the Mets are all talk !! The Phillies back up everything they say on the field . The Phillies ARE WORLD CHAMPS !! The Mets are a bunch of overpaid CRYBABYS who have not won anything . The Phillies will be "THE TEAM TO BEAT"AGAIN IN 2009. The Victory parade had over two million people having a good time enjoying themselfs. where were the Mets and thier fans oh thats right working !! Repeat 09 go Phillies !!
being he's one of the few mutts i dont hate,i'll be nice. but maybe if u hit a bit in the clutch, u wouldnt have to watch from afar saying why not us. and try beating the braves and marlins when it counts.....
the phillies are bums, lol they win 3 more games then the mets and think they are better... its about who u play at the time, an how shitty they are. all the teams in teh NL that made the playofffs are and were weak. The mets owned the phillies in the regular season and if they were to have faced them in the playoffs it would've gone the same, it doesnt matter tho philly fans are the worst fans in the world, they suck. Dont worry tho, next year the world series title will still be in the NL east once the mets take it home..
i agree.i'm a mets fan,i think they r going to win the world series of 2009 + they have a new stadium, thats better then citizens bank park!!!
Lets Get Manny!!
Lets Go Mets!!!
shoulda woulda coulda..........you sound like a ten year old....bottom line , your mets choked, gagged, layed an egg, two years in a row........they lack character, as well as guts.... bottom line, phillies are the champs......
That is why we have a championship and beat one of the best teams in baseball in only 5 games, and had over 45,000 fans at each playoff game, and went 11-3 playoffs overall. You can try to say anything but at the end of the day we are the best team in baseball.
Typical Phidelphia fans....You wish you had Wright. Your team is just a flash in the pan. WOW you had a good year and your attendance went up. Let's see what happens when you come back to earth
Hey Vinny,
Still bummed about your muts fading in the second half again??get used to it and you thought adding santana was going to solve all your problems..how's wagner working out for you...Muts owed the Phillies???Guess you're not watching the games...Anyway go WORLD CHAMPION PHILLIES!!!
GO NY METS IN 2009
The Phillies led by their low-key manager, made the plays, hit in the clutch when they needed to and rec'd solid pitching when they had to have it. It's about playing the game with passion. That's why the Phillies are WORLD CHAMPS and the Mets are nothing more that POSERS. If the Mets want to win a title, they should look at how the Phillies won this year. It's called playing as a team, pulling for one another.. The Mets should get a better manager, thats where it all starts. I'm so proud of my PHILLIES. The Mets will always be the MUTTS!
Plane fact is that the Mets chooked. Simple. The Mets suck and the better team won the World Series. It's not who you play when, you play the same team the same amount of times in your league. You can't win the games when it counts and someone else does, then you lose. Just like the Mets did, they chooked and they are losers, 2 years in a row. Come on, wake up Mets fans. Jealous because the Phils won the World Series and what a great parade it was. See you next year. Enjoy the the winter Mets Losers.
Hey! Nice parade last Friday. I hear all you Mets fans were at work!
