Brandon Webb Still Wants That Extension

There are two more years on Brandon Webb's current contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Earlier in the season, the DBacks and their Cy Young Award-winning ace were in discussions for a three year extension -- with a fourth option year -- on a contract believed to be worth around $54 million. The front-office cut off talks and haven't discussed the extension since. Webb and his agent, Jonathan Maurer, are still waiting ...
"We anticipate the team coming to us at some point in the off-season to discuss this," Maurer said. "Brandon loves Arizona and wants to spend his whole career there, but whether that happens depends on how the organization wants to spend."
Also of note, Maurer explicitly said that earlier discussed deal would not be good enough at this point.

This is really baffling to me. If you are the Diamondbacks, what are you waiting on? I understand guys should just play out their contracts -- which, by the way, Webb will do if they don't re-up -- but the longer you wait, the more the price tag goes up. In fact, if they wait long enough, you run the risk of aggravating the player and seeing him sign elsewhere (see Damon, Johnny).

He's not an injury prone pitcher, and he's still young. Lock him up, DBacks, or suffer the consequences.
