Colorado Rockies' All-Star outfielder Matt Holliday has been in trade talks for the past few weeks, but we hadn't exactly heard the Oakland A's were prominently involved in talks. Until today.
The A's are closing in on a deal with the Rockies that would send star outfielder Matt Holliday to Oakland from Colorado, SI.com has learned. The players Colorado would receive are not yet known. It has been known for some time that the Rockies would explore possibilities other than signing him to a massive contract, but this is a shocking development that Billy Beane would trade for a hitter with such terrible splits away from Coors Field, who will also be needing a huge contract quite soon. He's a free agent after 2009, and with the numbers he put up the past few years, he's in a for a significant payday.
Other reports have the deal being finalized within the next 48 hours and including Oakland starting pitcher Greg Smith.
No matter the specific details, it appears Matt Holliday is going to be a member of the Oakland Athletics in 2009.

Holliday is a streak hitter and was awful away from Coors Field. He strikes out a lot on terrible pitches and is just adaquate in the field. But he is young ,a good citizen and teammate I am told, so his up-side may be what Billy see's. He also, with a big year he may have ,because he will be auditioning for his next contract ,might be tradable for more good players, during the 2009 season ----that is what Billy may be thinking?
The Rockies are not getting much for him though-----course they never do!

If he ends up on the A's, I'm guessing it will be a short lived career in Oakland. Beane will do all he can to pump him up before the trade deadline next season.

Billy is a litle confused. He dumped his best three starters to rebuild and then goes out and is acquiring a GOOD stick and great ballplayer that will be due to expire just as the A's mature.
