Jake Peavy has a no-trade clause, and it could cripple the Padres hopes of landing a large return for him. Why? Because he really wants to play for the Chicago Cubs, according to several sources. Most recently, a report in The San Diego Union-Tribune had Peavy kicking it in Puerto Rico with Derek Jeter, Ryan Braun, and others. Someone brought up the possibility of Peavy being traded to the Braves. Well, let's just say, it's bad news for Braves fans counting on landing Peavy. Peavy's response left one person present to conclude that Peavy, whose consent is needed for a trade, will not be going to Atlanta anytime soon, even if the Padres and Braves were to agree to a trade. "I think he wants to go to Chicago," the friend said. This is a very tricky situation for the Padres. I remember how much Ken Griffey handcuffed Seattle because he only wanted to play in Cincinnati. They didn't get near as much in return as they should have -- of course, since Jim Bowden was in love with Pokey Reese they were spared his busthood.
Either way, Peavy's reported friendships with Mark Grace and Rick Sutcliff seem to have placed his heart in Wrigley. We'll see how far he takes things, but the situation could really hamper the Padres' hopes of a prospect coup.

I'm an almost lifelong Padres fan. Peavy would help catapult the Cubs to where they need to get to: a World Series. He's tenacious, fiery and extremely competitive. He's also getting to the "meat" of his prime and will have several "great" years.
He'll be a workhorse. What we need is quality players at the early stage of their careers who are fast, efficient and talented in return....
It's just how much the Cubs want to give up in trade for an almost instantaneous return on their investment.

I hear that Jake wants to be a Met or a Philly. He also has the Angels high up on his list as he wants to play for a team who can win the World Series. If this is true I think he will be dropping the Cubs off his list as I have been a Cub fan from birth and we haven't won the series in my 48 years I have been here.

Get out Peavy, the San Diego Padre's are sinking ship. Anybody with an ounce of sense will vacate the scene of the crime. Any Major League player left on this club will be traded or released before training camp in 2009. Jake if you thought that your 2008 season was bad, then just come back and pitch for the Padre's in 2009 and you will get the real meaning of bad! The San Diego Padre's don't want you Peavy. Please sign with a club who has a chance!

Peavy seems to save his worst performances for big games. He'll fit right in with the Cubs!

You are a true fan Matt. I feel so bad for you the Cubs can't ever get over the hump. The one think you need to do is stop putting your dreams on here. I know you want Jake to play for the Cubs but to come up with your silly idea he wants to be a Cub and not to say he would like to play for at least 4 other teams as much as playing for the Cubs. I have seen all the rumors and they have him as a Dodger, Angel, Met, Phillie, as well as a few other teams he has on his short list. The Braves are the team offering the best trade right now so we will see what happens. Don't get your hopes up to high as the Cubs will let you down as they have for your life time. It is what it is and I would like to see him in a Cubs uniform in the spring, but until it's a done deal I would stop jinxing it. I am wating for you to write CC, Manny and K Rod are going to be on the Cubs next year too.

Pretty sure Cubs aren't going to try and sign CC, Manny, or KRod; and I'd never suggest as much.
I'm a realistic fan. On this story, I just reported what was in front of me. If other reports say something else, that's fine.
