Jim Leyritz Annoyed at Breathalyzers, Doesn't Seem to Mind Living

It's been almost a year since Jim Leyritz decided to get drunk and take the wheel, a horrendously stupid decision that ruined his life and took the life of a young mother. What's he up to these days? Making ill-advised pleas for public sympathy by blaming the dead mother for the accident and whining about how the Breathalyzer unit attached to his car's ignition makes going out to eat "bothersome."

"He cannot leave the car with a valet, because it cannot be started by the valet," his lawyers said in a statement.

And he "can't eat things like chicken Marsala," said his ex-wife, Karri, because certain foods cause false positives.

Two thoughts immediately come to mind: 1) how come the valet guys aren't sober enough to pass the Breathalyzer? 2) a woman is dead, and we're supposed to care that he "can't eat things like chicken marsala?" Pity him.

I'm all for second chances, but it's been nearly a year since his accident and walking across the parking lot and being careful about what he orders is the worst of his problems, well, he should be feeling pretty good about things. Need we point out how much worse things could have turned out?

His trial is currently slated for Jan. 12, and he plans to argue that the accident was the other driver's fault: apparently she was drunk, as well, and he claims she ran a red light and caused the accident. Maybe that's all true, but considering his blood-alcohol content was nearly twice the legal limit, he can't claim with any confidence that the accident was unavoidable. If he had his wits about him that night, perhaps he could have slowed down or somehow avoided her. Instead, she died, and a year later, he can't eat certain Italian dishes.

Life isn't even remotely fair sometimes.

I'd like it if he drank antifreeze and had a sulphuric acid chaser. If this guy wasn't sort of semi-famous, would we care about his valet parking and dining problems?

He is a drunken, killer loser and should do a long stretch. Society keeps winking at drunken driving punishment because there is an entire industry of lawyer/legislator ambulance chasers in every state who need the billable hours.

Go to prison Leyorwitz and you will not have issues with the fried baloney and grits on the tray.

Are you tryin ta kid me around now. Why doesnt he take resposibility for whats he's done. I believe there is a child or 2 involved who have no Mommy now. I could see if he set up a trust fund for them AT THE LEAST! I guess if he's gonna try to strong arm himself outta this,, I say build a jail under the jail for him, Fish sticks and dead rats are good enough for the brains he lacks. Heartless F***** BUM!

I'm sick of celebrities and every other rich person being in the news for their stupid decisions. There are many people who have been victims of drunks. Half of them sadly don't make the news. Many drunks don't even get ordered to get the Breathalyzer. A woman was killed because he decided to drive drunk & this ignorant jackass isn't taking responsibility. This woman's family has become another victim because of him. He should rot in prison and be forced to eat "S*it-a-la-king."

We are all on the same page. Did you also know he is getting financial assistance from Major League Baseball for Necessities. Like food for his children, utilities..etc. Jim Leyritz is a disgrace to human kind. "but but but she was drunk too? I guarantee she would not be acting like this if the situation was reversed. She would take responsibilities for her bad judgement and face the concequenses like any decent person would. Valet parking?! He shouldn't even be able to drive. Hopefully the jury and/or judge will see his lack of remorse and self centeredness and give him the max the law will provide in one of the worst prisions the Florida Department of Prisons have to offer. One where his stupid ex wife will have to drive like 10 hours to see his sorry ass and if we are lucky get hit by another drunk driver.

I continue to follow this story because our friends son was involved in a fatal accident in FL. Came around a blind corner and rear ended a gal and killed her. He was NOT legally drunk but did have alcohol in his systen. FL is a ZERO TOLERANCE STATE and he has just gotten out of prison after serving about 6 years AFTER time off for good behavior. Good kid too. Ruined the family financially and the boy also. Boy is just crushed for killing someone. Would like to see a little consistency and see this guy do time.
