After meeting with CC Sabathia twice on Monday, Yankees GM Brian Cashman walked away impressed, telling the New York Times that he'd remain patient as Sabathia made up his mind. Sabathia, meanwhile, continues to explore options to land with a West Coast team, telling Dodgers GM Ned Colletti point-blank that he wants to pitch for the Dodgers, and, according to Andrew Baggerly of the San Jose Mercury News, Sabathia's agent spoke with the Giants last night and expect to meet face-to-face next week. But that's not Baggerly's biggest scoop -- this is:
It sure must've have been a productive discussion, because word is that Sabathia has declined the Yankees' six-year, $140 million offer. (I must stress that's unconfirmed, but talk is spreading fast. If true, look for the Yanks to get hyper-aggressive on A.J. Burnett.)Of course, take this with a huge grain of salt -- as far as I can tell, the rumor has yet to be substantiated by anyone else, and on the heels of Cashman preaching patience, it seems odd that Sabathia would decline any formal offer unless he's absolutely convinced he has another one to his liking, whether it's from a team in California or the dark horse Brewers. But still, if you subscribe to the "where there's smoke, there's fire" line of thought, have fun chewing on this.
Update: Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports says there's no truth to this rumor, citing "two sources with knowledge of the discussions." No surprise there. Ken Davidoff of Newsday agrees: "Good lord. How could someone report that?" (via River Ave)

Why waste time trying to sign someone who doesn't want to play for you? The Yankees should explore other options.

Could you guys inform yourselves before you keep reporting this nonsense about CC telling Colletti he wanted to be a Dodger?
"Colletti cleared up a misunderstanding after it was widely reported that left-hander CC Sabathia, the top free-agent pitcher on this year's market, had told him he wants to pitch for the Dodgers. What Colletti actually said was that Sabathia had made the Dodgers aware, not directly but through conversations with third parties, that he had a desire to pitch for them." -LA Daily News

Whatever. The sooner the Yankees realize they can't buy championships, the better.

CC Sabathia has yet to prove he can win in the big game. He rarely pitched well on Opening Day, against Oakland, in the 2007 post-season, he struggled.
Maybe he feels pitching in New York would take too much out of him, who really knows? His wife wants him to go to San Francisco. But he still has to do what he feels is best for him. He turned down an $18-20 million a year deal with the Indians in spring training the team he spent his career with. So it's not like he wasn't offered good money.
