The Yankees epic pursuit of CC Sabathia may finally have reached its end. And, unlike Ahab, they appear to have reeled in their white whale. According to the New York Post and ESPN, Brian Cashman's third meeting with Sabathia on Tuesday night led to a preliminary agreement between club and player. Nothing's finalized just yet, but Jayson Stark's reporting that there are no major road blocks in the way of the union of Sabathia and $140 million. (Update: ahem, make that $160 million.)
It wasn't looking like the Yankees were going to wind up with Sabathia. While reports that he flat turned them down were premature, he was clearly looking for someone to give him a reason not to sign in the Bronx. The Yankees so wildly overbid the market, however, that no team even bothered to come up with something that he could accept without looking like a fool for leaving so much money on the table.
Sabathia's press conference upon official signing should be quite interesting. Usually players talk about how excited they are to sign with the team, but Sabathia can't really go that route. He probably won't say something like "Well, they offered the most money so I gave up personal preferences" either, but it will be a tricky navigation for Sabathia.
Plenty of Yankee fans and Yankee media think that playing for the Yankees should be the dream of every player in the majors. That Sabathia took so long to sign gives them an angle for attack the first time things go wrong.

I heard this on our local news this morning. Milwaukee will miss CC, but we just couldn't afford him. I guess you really CAN pay someone enough to live in NY. Good luck to him.

I understand that $160 million is a lot of money, but it just goes to show that people will do anything for a little bit more money. Honestly what could you possibly need that much money for to play baseball? C.C. let the brewers orginization and the whole city of Milwaukee down with this deal. And to think..he actually had us believe that he wasn't all about money......

IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY & SECURITY THAT COME WITH IT . PLUS IF SOMEONE IS WILLING TO GIVE IT TO HIM WHY NOT TAKE IT .

oh yeah thats right...cuz 100 million dollars isn't enough security for one man and his family. Trust me, 100 mil is more security than anyone needs in his lifetime. I know C.C. eats a lot, but the 100 mil the brewers offered should be more than enough pizza, burgers, brats, and nachos to last him a lifetime. It just goes to show that there are very few people left in the league that aren't totally money driven, and thats sad

guess a hundred million is not enough, but who are we kidding if it were us or a family member , we would tell them to get more money out of them .,but since it not us or a family member in that situation we all jump at the chance to state that a 100milion is fair or enough .

I pretty much knew he would leave brewers to many good teams with deep pockets. isn't just about the money there is alot better chance of winning with yankees then brewers no offense.
