Mark Teixeira and Scott Boras have been controlling the free agent market for some time now, as they decide on where the superstar will end up playing in 2009. It was basically narrowed down to the Nationals, the Angels, the Red Sox and maybe the Yankees, even though they had already spent $40 billion on pitching. Or so we thought; Jon Heyman is reporting that the Yankees (the f__king Yankees, man!) are close to signing Tex to an eight-year, $180 million deal.
Teixeira, who hit .308 with 33 home runs and 121 RBIs in 2008, will receive an eight-year, $180 million deal from the Yankees with a full no-trade provision. If this happens -- and there are a lot of major news sites reporting it -- then it is a HUGE coup for the Yankees. Not only have they picked up CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett to shore up their rotation, but suddenly they've added one of the premiere power hitters in baseball to their lineup.
Now, of course, this would all but kill off the Manny Ramirez to the Yankees rumors. At least we can hope -- Armageddon doesn't sound that fun. On the bright side, at least "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is suddenly relevant again.

With that pitching staff and A-Rod,easy to justify the numbers, he;s 27, plays 10 years, 5 years of All-star #'s = @ least 3 more world championships and 5 division titles!
they still will not be in the world series!
Good,i hope the Yankees do sign Teixeria,he is nothing but a money hungry ball player to could care less about his team or the city he comes from, its all about him,Yankees and Teixeria are a perfect match,And if he goes down with an injury thats 20 million a year wasted on this clown.
This guy is nothing but an over-hyped Lance Berkman.
He's a slow starter... I hope the fans and NYC media rip him a new one for it.
I have been a die hard Yankee fan for over 58 years. I have stuck by them through their lean years as well as their great ones. I am however getting a little disturbed at what they are getting and worried that all that money could have been spent on the bullpen. Offense is nice ,but pitching is better. Keep runs from scoring and even a so so offense will win a game.By the way, who is going to end up paying all this money? The fans are who else.
Great news for all those Red Sox banwagon fans...scumbags!
F U Teixeira! I hope you blow your knee out in spring training! Money hungry piece of crap! You and Boras are quite the team, and you deserve to be a Yankee.
Seems like Boston fans are a little pissed, I can't imagine why. Tex would not fit in with the Boston red necks. They should change their name it has a nice sound to it!!
Boston Red Necks!!!!
I say that the Yanks go after Manny too, just to stick it to Boston!!!
Merry Christmas Boston, you won your last pennent for a very long time!
sam, you are an idiot and I hope all the yankee fans enjoy paying 300.00 a ticket for crap nose bleed seats. fools
we all talk about good bad ugly or indifferent the fact is that we are all money hungry savages and until you put yourself in someones shoes to earn 180 million dollars you just don't know, I will say this for every baseball glove that is sold or bat you best be sure you are helping pay that guys salary so no matter how much you hate the yankees you are supporting those players (thats a fact) it must be nice to support george and family he can pay because you just keep giving it to him. Take a hard look and thought at my comments. thank you for your time. by the way I make a living at selling sporting goods product it's all very out of controll trust me.
