The 2008 season was a great one for Dustin Pedroia. The 5-foot-9 second baseman became just the eighth player in American League history to win the MVP, a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger in the same season, while also being the first second baseman to win the MVP since Nellie Fox in 1959. The only thing that could have made the year better would have been a second consecutive World Series title, but alas the Sawx fell short in the ALCS against the Rays, though it was no fault of Dustin's.
Unfortunately for Pedroia, the calendar year of 2009 hasn't started out very well. While Pedroia himself hasn't had any problems, his older brother Brett has gotten himself in a bit of trouble. Earlier this month Brett turned himself into the Woodland, Calif. police on child molestation chargers.
According to the Woodland Police Department, Brett Pedroia was taken into custody Jan. 9 on a probable cause warrant for two counts of oral copulation and lewd acts with a child under the age of 14, all felonies.FanHouse's very own Tom Ziller, who wrote about this story at The Sporting Blog, lives in the same neighborhood as the Pedroia family in suburban Sacramento and he says the Pedroias are like royalty there. Residents of the area are having a hard time believing that Brett would be capable of doing something like this, but crazier things have happened.
The alleged victim recently told his parent about the incidents from four years ago, a statement from Woodland police said.
Brett Pedroia, 30, was booked and later released on $50,000 bail. He was working in his family's tire store Saturday, but he said he had no comment.
Whether the charges are true or not, you have to figure Dustin's going to have a lot on his mind when he heads to Florida for Spring Training in a couple of months.

I don't like Dustin Pedroia and like the Red Sox even less. In fairness to Dustin Pedroia I see no purpose served in bringing his name into a situation he had nothing to do with. The guy plays under enough pressure with the game of basebal without the media bringing this to the forefront. Let the man be. Let the brother stand on his own. The media wants to report on the brother fine, just be fair about the situation.
That's why they call them the "RED SUX"
(Jimmy) this has nothing to do with Dustin, AOL shame on you for this story. Typical media crap..
I agree. This is just capitalizing on his name value to make for an "interesting" story. Proves that sports media are becoming more like tabloids every day.
As a big yankee fan i wish cano has half the heart that duston has. He plays the game the way you should.W.B.C jeter going to play with duston he will enjoy it because duston plays the game like jeter plays. As far as his family im sure it will work out.
I agree with you Joe and as a Sox fan I am not fond of the Yankees at all but I ALWAYS thought Cano & Jeter conducted themselves w/ class. (Too bad A-Fraud didn't absorb this trait from Jeter).
Shame on AOL for advertising this matter and capitalizing on Dustins name. No reason the whole world has to hear this and plaster Dustin's good name all over it. I'm SURE Brett will get what he deserves and I wish those child(ren) the best.
Yes, Brett Pedroia turned himself in on charges of child molestation, but shame on US here at AOL for reporting it.
Sorry, folks, but when you win the AL MVP award and are one of the better known players in baseball these days, you're in the public spotlight.
Whether that's the good news, or the bad.
I think you are all missing the point... Not one of you brought up the actual victim here. All of you are more worried about what is being said about Dustin Pedroia. I'm pretty sure this post clearly states, "While (Dustin) Pedroia himself hasn't had any problems, his older brother Brett has gotten himself in a bit of trouble." This type of association happens all the time in media. It is nothing new.
As a mother of 2 little boys, I hope Brett gets what he deserves.. I know Brett and went to school with him, to the people who can't believe he would do this, think again. He has always been off. With all his drug use this shouldn't come as a suprise. I do agree that his brother shouldn't be brought into this and the focus should be on Brett and what he did to this poor boy.. I think Brett has had problems with his sexuality for awhile now and having a wife and kid doesn't make you straight.. I hope his victim gets justice and Dustin gets left out of further stories..
The Pedroia's are C*ck Suckers!!!
Have fun in Jail...
#1. Keep Dustin out of this. And if your not a Sox fan. It still does not take away what kind a ball player Dustin is. I'm a Sox fan. But many of my fav's are from other teams. #2 As far a Brett goes. Innocent, until proven guilty. Does not help that it is being brought up, 4 years later. Lets face it. Our media does not care about anything, or anyone. It's all about money. Money, money, money. And now even Torre. Who I thought was one of the classiest managers ever. Is there no end to this crap?
i always believe that things come back to haunt you,and i remember red sox fans getting on a rod over a stupid divorce,be that as it may dustin pedroia is a quiet guy ,hes not an arrogant a hole like papelbon(aka firemarshall bill)its his brother not him,so its not fair to throw that s**T on him and im a yankee fan
to the hulk,your sick
No hulk is just an IDIOT!!!!!!!
