Manny Being Overly Optimistic

While we're all still sitting here waiting for Manny Ramirez to give in to the fact that nobody is going to give him the four-year deal he seems dead set on signing and just sign with the Dodgers or Giants already, Manny wants us to know that he's still pretty confident that things are going to get done and work out.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times' Dylan Hernandez, Manny said that he's in no rush to get a deal done and that he's only "in the seventh inning and I'm waiting for my pitch." He also wants his prospective employers to know that he's not going to dog it if he gets a multi-year deal. He has goals, man.

Asked about widespread concerns that prolonged negotiations with teams might leave him disgruntled and result in him giving less than his best effort this season, Ramirez replied, "That won't happen. Understand me, I have goals. I know that if I play six more years, I could get to my 3,000th hit and, who knows, maybe my 700th home run."

Currently Manny is sitting at 2,392 hits and 527 home runs so he's only ... wait a minute, did he just say he plans on playing six more years?!

Holy crap! He did say he plans on playing six more years!

So does this mean that we're going to have to deal with this mess every winter until 2015? God help us all. If Manny were to reach his goals he probably would have to play at least six more years which would make him 42 years old when he retired. Not totally out of the question, but a lot more doable when steroids were still legal.

Every day Manny remains unsigned is a great day for me and for baseball. He tanked on Boston last year and now its coming back to bite him and Boras in the ass. Let him take a year off and think about it all. Jackass.

Hey Manny and Scott if you are listening there isn't any team that is going to trust you with a multi year deal because of all the baggage and your age. Scott if you are listening you need to start packaging your client as a one year deal. Teams would love to have him at one year. Let him go back to the Dodgers for one year at 25 million. He will put up monster numbers having a full season in the National League. The following year he can look for another one year deal for 25 million or more and he would make a killing. The only other way I see Manny making the money that he wants for the amount of years is if he go play overseas.

I'll add, no way he takes a year off. Come on, there are 20 teams that will give him 1 year and 15 million.
