Barry Bonds would probably like to see his perjury trial start tomorrow, because as each day passes it seems the federal government is mounting more and more of a case against him. On top of the voluminous records released documenting failed steroid tests by Bonds, the federal government now will be calling Kathy Hoskins to the stand next month to testify against Bonds. Though you likely don't know who Hoskins is, this is important because she claims that she watched Greg Anderson inject Barry Bonds. She apparently doesn't know what Anderson injected Bonds with, but it's looking kind of bleak for Bonds, especially given Bonds' prior testimony that no one except his doctors ever injected him with anything.
Of course, you can also see the route his defense will take. They're likely going to get the released tests thrown out of court and those probably couldn't have been directly linked to Bonds anyways. And without Hoskins knowing what Anderson injected Bonds with, Bonds' team will certainly argue that it was nothing illegal.
In the end, this trial is going to come down to a "he said she said" argument, with Hoskins and several former players pointing a finger at Bonds and Anderson and Bonds denying everything. Every time one of these stories leaks, though, Bonds' denials seem a little bit less plausible.

Pat Lacey proves how disingenuous sports writes are. Hoskins is just a non bias witness, she is the sister of the man Bonds is accusing stealing from him. The reason Bonds testified before the grand jury was not about his use of steroids, but about BALCO. Perjury is lying about something that is important to the case not just saying something false. You're quick to repeat things Barry might have said at a news conference and then conflate them with what was said under oath to give the impression that his denial of steroids use was said under oath. Barry said under oath that he never knowing took steroids. The government has a weak case. That why they are bringing in a bunch of people who can only give circumstantial evident. This is a clear case of the government abusing its power and wasting a lot of time and money. Thrown enough dirt, maybe something with stick. Is there any writer who has enough courage to write about this tired story from a different angle.

Wonder what your father would say Barry - he was a great ballplayer that played within the rules - guess it doesn't matter cause you have the money - reminds me of wht we used to say in the 82nd Abn Div, "You can fool ALL the generals SOME of the time, and you can fool SOME of the general ALL of the time, BUT you can never fool the _ss in the Grass Troops" - the public are the troops and you're not fooling them - just like Clinton with the definition of the word " is ". Good legal try but it doesn't wash!!!!
