If you're a Mets fan this spring, you're trying to stay positive about your team. After all, your boys have not only acquired two top-notch closers to help the back-end of the bullpen, which killed the squad last season, but you're also going to be watching games at Citi Field, which has to be better than Shea Stadium.Still, it's incredibly hard to stay positive about an upcoming season when you wake up to the morning paper Internet and see headlines about Johan Santana having pain in his throwing elbow, which may cause him to miss Opening Day, and he's going back to New York to get it looked at. That makes it really, really, hard. Well, this should make it easier on you, Mets fan.
Santana threw a bullpen session today in Florida, and not only is his arm still attached, but he didn't feel any discomfort in it either.
Afterward, Santana reported no discomfort in his elbow, and now he's headed back to New York for tests. The Mets will have to wait until he returns to update his throwing schedule and there is no timetable for his next throwing session.Santana played long toss with Francisco Rodriguez for a while before throwing about 50 pitches -- 19 warm up, 31 "real" -- all of which were fastballs or changeups. So Mets fans can probably afford to breathe a little easier when thinking of Santana's health, though until he gets his results from the MRI, he's not completely out of the woods.
"I feel fine," Santana said. "It's the first time in the last four days that I've thrown but I feel good. I don't think there will be any problem."

Kudos to Brian Cashman. While everyone was criticizing him the past two years, he passed up on Santana and Ben "Broken Down Again" Sheets. He didn't trade away the promising pitching prospects and instead got our Yanks CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett. GO YANKEES!!
