Alex Rodriguez Out 10 Weeks to Have Cyst Removed From Hip

Alex Rodriguez was bound to have a difficult 2009 season, even if his on-field performance met the typical MVP standards the slugger has established throughout his career. His steroid admission ensured that.

But now that Rodriguez's brother, Joe Dunand, has alerted the media that A-Rod will miss the first 10 weeks of the 2009 season due to scheduled surgery to remove a cyst from his hip, he's bound to endure even more scrutiny.

Joe Dunand informed ESPNDeportes.com that "immediate surgery" was a necessity and that Rodriguez expects to be out until at least May.

Conveniently -- or perhaps not -- A-Rod will be on the shelf when Selena Roberts' book about the slugger is released. That seems like an enviable spot for Rodriguez, at least in the sense that each of A-Rod's at-bats won't be publicly scrutinized during Roberts' book tour. But by the same token, A-Rod will not have the ability to dispute the book's allegations via his performance on the field.

It also means that A-Rod will miss the World Baseball Classic. His brother said that he is "destroyed" over this.

Rodriguez, via SportsCenter, will have surgery Monday in Colorado.

Listen I'm a yankee fan, but who gives a hoot. Enough with A-rod and every moment that goes on his life. He is not the first person to get a cysts removed. If it were hockey the player would get it removed and be on the ice that night :P

He is just doing this to get out of the spotlight for a while until all this steroid news blows over. He could have had this done in the offseason. If the Yankees are dumb enough to let him do this at the start of spring training and still pay him his rediculous salary then FUK em.

Who knows anymore what the truth is with any of these low lifes.Millions to lie and cheat.Millions to a player that lays down on his team when they pay him well.Millions so owners can make even more and a union can warn their favorits about drug screens.The whole of sports is becomming a parody filled with protected players and cheats.If this is a farce and I believe it is then Aroid is what all of us think he is...nothing more than a scum bucket along with most of baseball and most of sports today. I only feel bad for players that have tried to do the right thing all along and have to take a back seat to what is being sold as heros in this day.
