In the halcyon days of winter, when Jake Peavy trade rumors were flying to and fro, it was widely accepted information that Peavy had a limited number of teams he would lift his no-trade clause for. Those teams included the Braves and the Cubs in the NL, and the Angels and Yankees in the AL. Those limitations hamstrung the Padres in a variety of ways, and the closest the team ever got to unloading Peavy was a harebrained hypothetical three-way trade with the Cubs that never panned out. Now, Peavy is either widening his list of teams, or he's making sure the record is straight. Either way, put the Red Sox officially on the board:
Later in the offseason, Peavy's agent, Barry Axelrod, said that his client would, indeed, be open to a deal with the Red Sox. Monday, at the Team USA workout at the Rogers Centre, Peavy looked to clarify.Yeah, scrawl that in your notebook, reporter! The Peaveth has spoken.
"Boston was a place that I told the Padres I would certainly be interested in playing," the 28-year-old said. "I don't know if there were any talks. I gave the Padres a list and Boston was on that list. Boston was a place I told the Padres I would be interested in playing at. Set that straight for sure."
Will the Red Sox trade for Peavy? Eh. The Sox staff is still pretty well set up for the future, and a trade would no doubt require some of their best talent. There's a reason the deal hasn't been done yet -- the Padres aren't taking just anything in return. They want big-time players, or players better than whatever weakness the Cubs offered them in the winter. In any case, a trade doesn't seem likely to happen until later in the season. We'll see if Peavy's value changes before then.

He'll probably get traded to fill in for an injured ace later in the season
