And the Awards Go to ...

Cy YoungWe still have more than seven months before the Baseball Writers' Association of America hands out its hardware, but why wait? MLB FanHouse's staff is ready to name the award winners today.

But don't hold us to it.

These predictions are nothing more than having some fun. Think about it; there's two ways to predict who wins the MVP or Cy Young Award: take the obvious guy who's been at the top of his game (Johan Santana, Albert Pujols) or go with a hunch and make a stab at some so far unrewarded talent (Grady Sizemore, David Wright).

Our choices are below, and there's little consensus. Five different players got picked for AL MVP, five for AL Rookie of the Year, six for NL Cy Young, six for NL Rookie of the Year, seven for NL MVP and nine for AL Cy Young.

The most popular picks were for Florida's Cameron Maybin as NL Rookie of the Year and Grady Sizemore as AL MVP (both six panelists).

We must feel Cleveland will bounce back in the AL Central, since Sizemore was a popular choice for AL MVP. Sizemore is due some recognition; his 232 extra-base hits the past three seasons are most in the league.

Wright was the top pick in the NL, with teammate Jose Reyes getting one selection and division rival Chase Utley another. (I went off the board with Stephen Drew, just because.)

Most of our choices for AL Rookie of the Year will open the season in the minors, with Tampa Bay's David Price and Baltimore's Matt Wieters being picked by eight of the 13 panelists.

Editor's Note: Yes, we're aware Jake Peavy currently plays in the NL. Brinson's choice was intentional. Come back Friday for our playoff and World Series picks.
