Unruly fan behavior in Monday's season opener at Rogers Centre was the last straw. So that's it: no Labatt's, no Moosehead, no Molson, no Sleeman.Beer sales were banned at the Blue Jays' home stadium on Tuesday, and also on April 21 for a game against Texas.
Oh, and the players couldn't even get beer in their clubhouses. Ouch.
The Tigers pulled their players off the field and the game was delayed nine minutes as fans threw baseballs and other objects on the field. But Tuesday's prohibition had already been decided on because of past liquor-license (licence?) violations.
[Detroit left fielder Josh] Anderson was pleased to hear alcohol would not be sold Tuesday. And I thought Canadians were polite. And could hold their beer.
"That's good," he said. "These people can't handle it."
Signs posted Tuesday at stadium entrances listed five reasons for the license suspension: permitting drunkenness, permitting the use of narcotics, selling and serving to apparent minors, failure to request approved identification and permitting illegal liquor on the premises.
... Tuesday's ban meant little to Tigers manager Jim Leyland.
"That has no bearing on me," Leyland said. "I don't drink beer, particularly not during the game."

The Brew Jays' fans should be ashamed of themselves. Usually you gotta go to New York (or a soccer game in Europe) to see such a bunch of idiots...

The story is misleading. Ban was announced on the weekend for past indiscretions, prior to Monday's game.

I went to a Blue Jays/Red Sox game last summer, and to my dismay found that none of these Canadian beers were available at the Rogers Centre; Budweiser was the only brand served.

i say the only reason that things were thrown were from the hockey fans in depression cuz their teams are not in the playoffs, and therefore taking it out on baseball
