The White Sox have brought back the player who manned left field for their 2005 world champion squad, according to a published report. Scott Podsednik, the 33-year-old speedster was with the White Sox from 2005 to 2007, and played for the Colorado Rockies last season. He went unsigned in the offseason, but now he has a job. After losing Dewayne Wise, their current center fielder, to a separated shoulder, the White Sox have brought "Pods" back to the Windy City in the form of a minor-league contract. The other options for the White Sox in center at this point are Brian Anderson and Jerry Owens.
FOXSports.com was first to report the deal.
Podsednik will always have a home in the heart of White Sox fans for bringing a different element to the 2005 lineup after he was acquired for Carlos Lee prior to the magical '05 season. Oh, and that game-winning home run in Game 2 of the World Series (his ensuing home run trot is pictured above) probably didn't hurt matters.
For this season, he doesn't drastically improve the on-field product, but it is a no-risk signing. On the other hand, his wife does make the stands at U.S. Cellular Field a bit prettier (possibly NSFW).

Podsednik did not play center field for the 2005 White Sox, or at any time during his White Sox (at least, not regularly).
Podsednik played left field in 2005; Aaron Rowand played center. In 2006, after Rowand was traded for Jim Thome, Podsednik stayed in left and Brian Anderson played center.
Personally, I don't get the signing...I had always heard that despite his speed, Pods couldn't field center (weak arm?), which is why he's in left. And if he couldn't play center then, he probably can't now. And while his leadoff skills might be nice, there's no spot in the outfield for him if he's not in center.

In my haste to get it posted ASAP I neglected to look back at his defensive history. Thanks for the correction and I've updated the post.
I agree in that I don't see how he can still help them. That being said, it's only a minor league contract so the White Sox aren't risking anything.
