Yankees shortstop/captain extraordinaire Derek Jeter was a late scratch from Tuesday night's starting lineup against the American League-leading Toronto Blue Jays. Ramiro Pena will start in his place. The injury doesn't appear to be serious at this point, but we know oblique injuries -- due to their location and constant use in the sport of baseball -- can linger and hamper performance for an extended period.
For now, though, Jeter is considered day-to-day.
On the season, the 34-year-old Jeter is hitting .273 with four home runs, 13 RBI, 19 runs scored and seven stolen bases. Pena is hitting .279 with a .340 on-base percentage in only 48 plate appearances, but he represents a much bigger step down from Jeter than the small sample of rate stats tells.

I'm a Red Sox fan but I hope he's not out long. I remember thinking in 2004 when he dove in to the stands against Boston "I wish our guy did that" , we had Nomar at the time. He's a great ball player
