The Phillies may lose Brett Myers after Thursday's diagnosis of the right-hip injury that forced him from Wednesday's game.

"After speaking with Phillies Team Physician Dr. Michael Ciccotti this afternoon, Brett Myers had an X-ray last night that revealed bone spurring in his right hip joint," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement released by the team. "He had an MRI this afternoon that revealed fraying and possible tearing in the labrum of the hip. Brett will seek a second opinion from a hip specialist to be determined.

"It is possible that Brett will not make his next start. That decision as well as any decision on a possible DL stint or surgery will be determined at a later date."

Philadelphia was already seeking rotation help before this setback, but there doesn't seem to be much available yet.

"I don't think we can do anything right now," a Phillies official told FanHouse. "I don't think that [Myers injury] hastens it one way or another."

We know that a torn hip labrum means at least six weeks out, maybe more – for a hitter. With a pitcher, who knows?

Mike Lowell, Chase Utley, Alex Rodriguez, Alex Gordon and Carlos Delgado have all been diagnosed with torn labrums in the past eight months. One team strength coach posited that this injury has suddenly become prevalent because of better diagnoses, and that torn labrums in the past may have been dismissed as groin strains because of similar symptoms.
