The Cardinals, in need of offense, have traded with the Indians for infielder/outfielder Mark DeRosa. St. Louis sent right-hander Chris Perez to Cleveland, along with a player to be named.DeRosa, acquired from the Cubs in the offseason, had hit .270 for the Indians, with 47 runs scored, 13 doubles, 13 homers and 50 RBI in 71 games. He provides the kind of versatility Cards manager Tony La Russa uses well.
Perez was 1-1 with a save and a 4.18 ERA in 29 appearances. He began the 2009 season at Triple-A Memphis, going 1-0 with two saves and a 0.00 ERA in three appearances before being recalled to St. Louis on April 15th. He has held big-league hitters to a .195 average. He will report to the Indians in the next few days, the team said.

He was the only player besides Martinez who is knocking in runs. Why acquire him to begin with? I guess that is Cleveland baseball....

As a Clevelander, I am DONE with the Indians. Ever since Dick Jacobs ripped off the clown prince Larry Dolan for this franchise it has been on a downward spiral. They have a minor League Manager who can't manage a game or pitching staff to save his life and a Minor League General Manager whose bad trades FAR outweigh his good trades. Mark Derosa is the latest attempt at a good deal by this bungling fool Shapiro. Just as in the C. C. case last year does he wait until the trading deadline to get the most he can for a player?? NO!! He once again makes this trade with a month left before the trading deadline and the chance for bidding on Derosa, who by the way has been the Indians most consistant player this year and an upstanding human being. Thanks Duncehead Dolan for proving once again why you should have stuck to the cable TV business!!!! Eric Wedge and Shapiro MUST go or I am finished with this team!!!

Jim - your comments are right on the money. Mark Shapiro is a failure as a GM. He now is forced to trade the team's most consistent and productive player this season to cover up his failure to put together a competent bullpen. I'm from Buffalo and Eric Wedge only won here at the AAA level because the Buffalo ownership group spent the money to add veteran free agents which gave him a personnel edge over the rest of the league. His Cleveland teams from Day 1 have been fundamentally unsound while the players continually regress after promising starts to their careers. I'm also sick of the injury excuses. It's Shapiro's job to keep the talent replenished in the organization in order to continue to win despite injuries.
