After making two trades Tuesday, the Pirates may not be finished.Pittsburgh has publicly said that it would listen to offers on players who are not under team control for 2010 -- shortstop Jack Wilson, second baseman Freddy Sanchez, first baseman Adam LaRoche and lefty reliever John Grabow.
And according to an official of an AL team, Pittsburgh was particularly considering deals for Grabow and closer Matt Capps.
The Marlins, Twins and Dodgers are seeking bullpen help.
But the Bucs won't move players simply to dump salary. They want to get prospects, particularly power arms. And a person familiar with the Pirates' thinking warned that Capps would cost more than the others in terms of prospects because of his contractual status -- the reliever is not eligible for free agency until after the 2011 season.
Although the Pirates seem within striking distance in the tight NL Central, they may see that there are few sellers so far in the marketplace and thus have decided to strike now. Dating back to last July, Pittsburgh has been trading established players (Jason Bay, Xavier Nady, Nate McLouth) to add depth to what was a talent-barren organization.

WELL THAT'S NO SURPRISE AND PERHAPS WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO GO ALONG WITH THAT EXCEPT FOR ONE THING. GM NEAL HUNINGTON HAS A TENDENCY TO GIVE AWAY TALENTED PLAYERS FOR PROSPECTS THAT ARE NOT EVEN TEAMS TOP LINE PROSPECTS. IE TEAMS ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF HIS INEXPERIENCE AND HE LOOKS LIKE A FOOL.I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND THE NATE MCLOTH TRADE. LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AFTER WE WERE TOLD THAT HE WAS THE CENTERPIECE OF THE PIRATES FUTURE.THAT TRADE SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN MADE IF FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN THE ORGANIZATION HAD NO CREDIBILITY TO BEGIN WITH. NOW WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE.ONLY A WANNABE WOULD WANT TO WORK FOR THIS CHEAPSKATE ORGANIZATION. SOON JACK WILSON AND FREDDIE DANCHEZ WILL BE GONE. ONE OF THE NL'S BEST DEFENSIVE SS AND A DECENT HITTER TOO AND SANCHEZ A NATURAL SHORTSTROKER WHO HAS ALWAYS HIT EXCEPT WHEN HURT WILL BE GIVEN AWAY FOR NOTHING WHY NOT RESIGN THEM. IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A COUPLE OF MAJOR LEAGUERS ON THE ROSTER. WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO RESIGN BAY 2 YEARS AGO HE WAS NOT AN ALL STAR OR MVP CANDIDATE THEN THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD HIM.WHWN WILL THEY KEEP ANYONE?
