With the Home Run Derby taking place on Monday night in St. Louis as part of MLB's festivities for the All-Star Game, we've been left wondering exactly who would be representing the American League. The National League announced its participants last week, and now, finally, we know who will be swinging for the fences for the AL.
Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers, Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins, Brandon Inge of the Detroit Tigers and Carlos Pena will all be taking their cuts for the American League. At first glance the American League lineup lacks the luster of the National League, which is sending out Albert Pujols, Ryan Howard, Adrian Gonzalez and Prince Fielder, but don't be fooled.
Carlos Pena has never taken a swing in his life in which he wasn't trying to hit a home run, so he won't have to adjust very much, and with a swing as beautiful as Joe Mauer's, he may surprise a few folks as well.

Sure glad we don't have to hear Joe Morgans mouth at the all star game, talking about this great bro is greatest and this bro is almost the greatest. Eveytime a white guy does great, like tonights game between the Cards and Cubs he is running his mouth again, but not about the hero of the game for the Cards, give us a break Morgan we know your a racist of the first degree.

No way in hell should Pena be added to the all star squad. I don't care if he's hit 50 homers, he's batting a sickly .230. If Pedroia couldn;t make it due to a family health problem, then, as much as it kills me as a Sox fan, Cano should have been added. What the team doesn't need is a 4th first baseman. MLB should be picking any substitution players based on fan voting, not the team manager's whims. It's a farce.

Pena is the AL leader in home runs 24, i see no reason why he should not be in the home run derby. Joe Morgan has always been a fair guy, and to say he is a racist is not fair.
