| July 31 | Nationals trade 1B Nick Johnson to Marlins for minor league RHP Aaron Thompson |

| July 31 | Athletics trade SS Orlando Cabrera to the Twins for minor league SS Tyler Ladendorf |
| Analysis: The A's had little incentive to keep him because they agreed when they signed him not to offer him arbitration, so they would not have gotten any compensation picks for him if he left as a free agent. More | |
| July 31 | Dodgers trade RHP Claudio Vargas to Brewers for minor league UT Vinny Rottino |
| July 31 | Mariners trade LHP Jarrod Washburn to Tigers for LHP Luke French and minor league LHP Mauricio Robles |
| Analysis: There weren't any impact bats available at the ... so the Detroit front office began exploring bolstering its rotation instead. Justin Verlander, Edwin Jackson and Rick Porcello have been very good, but Armando Galarraga had struggled and Luke French was filling the fifth spot. More | |
| July 30 | Pirates trade LHP John Grabow and LHP Tom Gorzelanny to Cubs for RHP Kevin Hart, RHP Jose Ascanio and minor league IF Josh Harrison |

| July 29 | Pirates trade 2B Freddy Sanchez to Giants for minor league RHP Tim Alderson |
| Analysis: The Giants offense still lacks middle-of-the-order punch, but they have added two experienced big-league hitters in spots where they have struggled to find any production throughout the season. More | |
| July 29 | Indians trade LHP Cliff Lee and OF Ben Francisco to Phillies for minor league RHP Jason Knapp, RHP Carlos Carrasco, SS Jason Donald and C Lou Marson |
| Analysis: Philadelphia has been trying for most of the season to bolster its rotation. Now it has last year's AL Cy Young Award winner, giving it a 1-2-3 -- all left-handed -- of Lee, Cole Hamels and Jamie Moyer. More | |
| July 29 | Pirates trade RHP Ian Snell and SS Jack Wilson to Mariners for IF Ronny Cedeno and minor leaguers C/1B Jeff Clement, RHP Ben Pribanic, RHP Brett Lorin and RHP Nathan Adcock |

| Analysis: [Brian] Sabean said the Giants were particularly interested in Garko because of his career numbers against left-handed pitchers. He has a .318 average and a .906 OPS in his career against lefties. More | |
| July 24 | Athletics trade OF Matt Holliday to Cardinals for minor league 3B Brett Wallace, OF Shane Patterson and RHP Clayton Mortensen |

| July 23 | Indians trade RHP Rafael Betancourt to Rockies for minor league RHP Connor Graham |
| Analysis: Colorado relievers are 14th in the NL with a 4.86 ERA. Take out closer Huston Street and that figure jumps to 5.29. More | |
| July 22 | Red Sox trade SS Julio Lugo to Cardinals for 1B Chris Duncan and a player to be named or cash |

| July 22 | Pirates trade 1B Adam LaRoche to Red Sox for minor league SS Argenis Diaz and RHP Hunter Strickland |

| July 19 | Diamondbacks trade 2B Felipe Lopez to Brewers for minor league OF Cole Gillespie and RHP Roque Mercedes |
| Analysis: Lopez is hardly the difference-making starting pitcher the Brewers are likely to need to come out on top in [the NL Central] race, but it's easy to forget how good Rickie Weeks was before he was lost for the season. More | |
| July 10 | Mets trade OF Ryan Church to the Braves for OF Jeff Francoeur and cash considerations |
| Analysis: "[Francoeur's] gone backward," the scout told FanHouse. "He's too tight, too stiff. It's going to be a project." More | |
| July 10 | Mariners trade SS Yuniesky Betancourt to Royals for minor league RHP Danny Cortes and LHP Derrick Saito |
| Analysis: [Seattle] should be credited for turning an uneven shortstop into two pitching prospects, both of whom have promise. More | |
| July 7 | Diamondbacks trade RP Tony Pena to White Sox for minor league IF Brandon Allen |
| Analysis: Firesale time? Arizona is well out of the NL West race despite a good young core and could look to deal off spare parts over the rest of July. Consider Pena only the beginning. | |
| July 5 | Padres trade OF Scott Hairston to Athletics for minor leaguers RHP Craig Italiano and RHP Ryan Webb |
| Analysis: There's no real word from Oakland about [Matt] Holliday specifically, but it certainly looks like a precursor-type move -- especially with the news that Hairston will begin in center and eventually shift to a corner. More | |
| June 30 | Pirates trade IF/OF Eric Hinske to Yankees for minor leaguers OF/C Eric Fryer and RHP Casey Erickson |
| Analysis: [Hinske's] been a part of the last two AL pennant-winning teams in Boston and Tampa Bay, so maybe the Yankees are hoping he can bring some of that World Series mojo with him to the Bronx. More | |

L.A. Angels of Anaheim .... I'm telling you Arte, stand pat and make a little profit to sign a free agent, or two this off season. yes, we will AGAIN be raising the Championship banner for A.L. West this year, and then IMMEDIATELY flame out in the first round of the playoffs.
My plan??? ... Now that Rod Carew is again an employee, get him onto the field as a batting coach. Manager Mike can still have booze drinking buddy Mickey Hatcher around as a first base coach, or something equally unimportant. Vlad is sure to go, as is John Lackey ... Face it, loyalty to a team no longer exists ... Let's find a way to sign Bobby Abreu LONG TERM

i sure hope the the indians don't trade cliff lee or victor martinez.the indians certainly could make a run at the al central next year.us indians fans are tired of trading star players for prospects.you don't see great teams like the yankees or red sox continually trade for prospects.

With the Sox stock piling 1st basemen and outfield types, I feel that they have something very big on their minds. With Youkilis at first and Lowell now back to his old self, why would they trade for LaRoche and piss all three off by platooning them? I wouldn't trade Sox younsters for Halladay unless he agreed to a contract extention. Otherise, he's just here for a little over a year---unless the Sox trade him to a NL contender next year at this time.

The whole LaRoche thing doesn't make any sense to me. Lowell appears to be healthy and has been consistent . If anything Ortiz should be the odd man out. I'd rather have Lowell's bat in the line-up then his at the moment. I certainly would like a Halladay or Lee but they need a good bat first.
