The sound of Tiger Woods hitting a driver; the sound of Jim Rice hitting a ball...sometimes you just know you're looking at someone better than everyone else. Congrats Jim.

Rickey had the coolest home run trot in the history of the game. Those A's teams with Rickey, Lansford, McGuire, Canseco, and Henderson were a terror..

i'm very glad to see jim rice finally get some of the recognition that he deserves for being one of the dominant players of his era....i'm not old enough to have seen him in his late 70's early 80's prime having been born in '77, but i can share this....jim rice's strength was a strength of majesty....my father saw him swing so hard once that the man actually snapped the bat with a check swing....that's power

Ricky Henderson is a very deserving first ballot Hall Of Famer, but, he is NOT the greatest lead-off hitter in MLB history. That distinction goes to Pete Rose, who himself should now be in The Hall. In 1989-91 Henderson was unquestionably hard to deal with as a phenomenal lead-off man, but, Pete showed the same tenacity (even greater in my book) and his numbers were even more impressive over the course of MANY seasons. Besides that, Pete has more rings than Henderson. Indeed, quirky Ricky is definitely a first ballot Hall Of Famer, but, it's time to get Pete Rose in there, too.

I'd give the edge to Rickey over Rose. Rose has the hits, but Henderson walked a lot more, had more than twice the doubles and more home runs (in addition to the SB record).
Rose has more WS titles, but that's more of a team distinction

Jim Rice should have been in a long time ago they should take the election rights away from the writers and give it to the players or fans or something. Then there is Ricky Henderson to me by far the most exciting player in my lifetime at 52 yrs. of age I have seen many, but no one who was more of a threat then Ricky. When he went to the on deck circle the catchers would always say; "Hell just put him on 3rd base he is going to be there any way when he steals 2nd then 3rd might as well make the game move faster and just have him stay on the bench and count him as a run scored every time he comes to bat.

When i was nine and playing my first year of little league i asked for number 14. i wore that same number playing Babe Ruth, High School and Legion Ball. Jim every boy like me who idolized you growing up wearing your number they way we did has waited along with you for this day..Thank you for giving young boys a hero we could look up to. a player we could emulate. and a father figure to those of us who had none. this was long overdue.

Ricky Henderson is definitely a first ballot Hall-Of-Famer, but, he is NOT the best lead-off hitter in the history of MLB, as is claimed in some sectors. That distinction goes to Pete Rose. No question about it, during 1989-91, Ricky was almost unstoppable as a phenomenal lead-off man, but, Pete was every bit as tenacious and his numbers are even better (except steals), and better for a NUMBER OF SEASONS. Besides that, Pete has more rings than henderson. Despite being a deserving surefire first ballot Hall-Of-Famer, I give Pete Rose the nod for the best lead-off hitter ever. A conscious effort should be made to get Rose into the Hall-Of-Fame where he belongs as much as does Henderson.

Rice should have been in long ago. Myabe or maybe not he was a jer, but his stats standup. The all-time base stealer has to go in (he was a jerk too) One of the biggests asses in baseball (Johny Bench) got in, with worse stats than Rice

Jim Rice is way better than Reggie Jackson, and far and away Classier, too ! Reggie was a self absorbed and mouthy , son of a gun! we could blame Charles Finley for giving us Reggie, he cut him loose when he could no longer control him or Mr. Finley just got tiresd of winning.
You're the MAN JIM ,Congrats!!!!
