When Luis Gonzalez hit a bloop single off of Mariano Rivera in game seven of the 2001 World Series to give the Arizona Diamondbacks a title, he reached a hero status in Arizona that will likely never dissolve. Eight years later with Gonzalez's professional baseball career over, he may not be cashing in on that affection in Arizona.Gonzalez met with Diamondbacks CEO Derrick Hall at Chase Field on Friday, and it wasn't just a friendly lunch. It seems that Gonzo could be getting a job in the Diamondbacks front office.
The two discussed "future employment in the front office," Hall said in a text message, adding that he is confident Gonzalez will have a home with the Diamondbacks in the near future. What exactly Gonzalez's role with the team would be, I'm not sure if it would be more of an ambassador type job, or one in which Gonzalez is actually involved with personnel decisions. Whatever the reason behind the move turns out to be, it should at least serve as a positive public relations move with a fan base who would like any reason to be distracted from the team's performance this season.
Gonzalez also stopped by the clubhouse, visiting with players, coaches and staff.
"He was just coming in to say hello," manager A.J. Hinch said. "He has a lot history here, a lot of friends and people he played with."

And the object of this piece, besides the fact that I realize you can't always pick what you write about on here, would be what (since it already was reported as a short sports news story)? No news, no revelations, no shocking opinions or predictions about anything. You mean you had to fill your space somehow and this was the best you could come up with? As you said, he also, "...stopped by the clubhouse...". And A.J. Hinch said, "...He was just coming in to say hello...". Exciting stuff. Yaaaawn. This was the first piece of yours I've ever read...and I think perhaps the last. (Wonder if that TV commercial break is over yet?)
