Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Brett Myers hasn't made a start for the Phillies since back on May 27 due to hip surgery but he was scheduled to make his first rehab start for the team's Single-A affiliate in Clearwater on Saturday night. I say he was because due to an eye injury, Myers is not going to be making that start tonight. As for how Myers happened to hurt his eye, well, the story keeps changing. Myers originally said he suffered the eye injury while playing catch with his son, and he got clocked in the face by an errant throw. Now it's hard to believe a professional baseball player would have trouble catching a ball thrown by a small child, so it's no surprise that a few hours later new details emerged.
OK, here's a Myers update, and the story keeps getting stranger. According to Amaro, through a team spokesman, Myers initially misinformed the Phillies about the cause of his injury. According to the spokesman, Myers slipped getting out of his truck last night, hit his face and suffered significant swelling around his eye. He's icing it today and will see the Phillies' medical staff in Clearwater tomorrow. The spokesman said Myers initially told the Phillies that he was hit by a throw from his son, then changed his story.
Well that's a little more believable, isn't it?Now as to what caused Myers to slip out of his truck -- if that's even the truth -- I'll let you decide for yourself. The fact he lied about the reason originally makes it somewhat easy to figure out.

Let's see there's no ice in the summer. Could it have been alcohol? Yes I'm a Yankees fan. Our Joba Chamberlain made a mistake driving while drunk. Luckily he got stopped by cops and didn't kill anyone.I doubt very much that Myers slipped on a banana peel. Myers is rowdy as I remember him hitting Drew Henson with a pitch in the minors and getting into a fight with him. Slipping on a banana peel could happen but they're so slippery that you would land on your back. There's also a possibility that Myers got into a fight with someone.

I'm a Phils fan, not a Brett Myers fan though. Alcohol definitely played a role, and based on his "gold glove" & "wife beating" background, maybe his wife finally struck back!
Grow up Brett, you play for the world champions...the same ones that have a gaping hole at the end of their bullpen. You could help us...if you dont end up in jail first.

Somebody definitely punched him in the face. That why he lied. He lied because it's embarrasing for a grown man(professional)to have to tell his employer, teammates and fans that he got into a situation and got clocked. It's an ego thing. The game of catch with the son was the worst story he could have come up with. He makes millions of dollars a year to play catch against the worlds best.

FORNELLI, after you wrote this and actually read it did you feel stupid? Because it is the most stupidist thing I have ever read! Did you ever hear of an accident? Yea they do happen. You dont have to be a professional baseball player for an accident not to happen to you! "Now it's hard to believe a professional baseball player would have trouble catching a ball thrown by a small child",

But really....professional atheletes are not exempt from accidents. I am not justifying Myers' lying but his son could have hit him in the eye with a ball!

You're right, but I don't know many 4-year olds who throw hard enough to do that kind of damage.
