The good folks of Cincinnati should probably start calling Great American Ball Park "The Infirmary," because this is just ridiculous. Willy Taveras and Johnny Cueto have both been placed on the disabled list. Taveras has a strained right quad -- so, a leg injury to a player whose strength is running fast. Cueto, a right-handed pitcher, has, naturally, a right shoulder injury. Considering the way things have gone for the Reds this season, hearing the news of players falling injured isn't exactly a new experience.

The following players have been on the DL for the Reds at some point this season: Edwin Encarnacion, Nick Masset, Edinson Volquez, Joey Votto, Alex Gonzalez, Wilkin Castillo, Danny Richar, Jay Bruce, Ramon Hernandez, Chris Dickerson, Micah Owings, Scott Rolen, Taveras and Cueto.
That means, using the true core of the ballclub (starters, starting pitchers, setup men and closer) from Opening Day, only Aaron Harang, Bronson Arroyo, Francisco Cordero, Arthur Rhodes and Brandon Phillips have managed to elude a stint.
It's hard to imagine any team in the majors has been more afflicted with injuries, especially taking into account the level of talent and length of stints. It could easily be argued their awful 19-41 record since June 10 excusable. They were four games over .500 before then.
It is entirely possible injuries have derailed a decent-to-good season for the young Reds. Instead, they are left scraping the bottom of the barrel, and the roster hits don't seem to be slowing down.
