With the New York Mets struggling through injuries all season and well out of the NL East race, it's no surprise that Mets fans aren't happy with the way 2009 has played out. Throw in some Tony Bernazard right crosses and general manager Omar Minaya has been feeling the heat.So while there are plenty of Mets fans who wouldn't mind seeing Minaya gone after the 2009 season, Mets owner Fred Wilpon came out on Sunday and said that both Minaya and manager Jerry Manuel are going to be back with the team next season.
Mets owner Fred Wilpon, who almost never speaks to the media, told the New York Post in Sunday's editions that Minaya will "absolutely" be back in 2010. It was the biggest public vote of confidence Minaya has received since his handling of the Tony Bernazard fiasco angered ownership and put him under increased scrutiny.
"Am I going to bring Omar back next year?" Wilpon told the paper. "Absolutely. That's a fact."
The story also quoted Minaya as saying manager Jerry Manuel is "my guy," indicating he, too, will be back next season.
This isn't exactly the most shocking news considering Minaya just received a four-year contract extension last September. Plus, as easy as it is to blame general managers and managers for a team's problems, the Mets have placed an average of roughly 2.3 players on the disabled list every day. At least, it seems that way.Of course, with all that being said, if the Mets come out next year and continue to struggle I wouldn't be shocked to see both Minaya and Manuel gone before the season is over.

There is much rejoicing in Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami, and Washington today.
This is why the Mets Suck as always. Bring Delgado back, Wagner, and Sheffield too. Injuries arent why this team stinks. They have one starting pitcher and one closer, and one left handed setup guy, all the rest stink!!! They had the chance to get rid of Sheffield and they blew that too!!They needed to clean house. All they have to do now is invite Livian Hernandez to spring training with his brother El Duque'....
Also, they have an identity problem because they wear throw back Giant uniforms, while their franchise has nothing to do with The Giants. Why didnt they wear throwback '69 or '86 Mets jerseys. Better yet wear the '27 Yankees uniform. You have a history, be proud of it, and THE DODGERS, and THE GIANTS have nothing to do with it!!!
now is time to back a different team. Mets need new leadership.
The Wilpons are really kissing Omar Minaya because
Neither knows about baseball Minaya still have a job because He will not sign a big free agents
Jerry Manuel is a Joker, the jopkes is on us the NY Mets fan this is a sad stories
I hope no one buy tickets to the games
I had more fun watching the 70's and the 80' Mets
Nelson Doubleday I wish you were still the owner
Wonder what Joe Morgan thinks about this slug, guess he will say hes great even though he has been a master screw up running the mets. Tell us what you think home boy.
Minaya has been given the vote of confidence by the inept Mets ownership. I can't believe they are going to reward this man for the embarrasing job he has done, from the Willie firing to his handling of the Bernazard fiasco, Minaya should be thanking his plantanos that he is being rewarded. I wonder when the "Latin Kings" have a trip due to Los Angeles? I would love to see Minaya get canned the same way Willie Randolph was canned by Minaya.
Uh-Oh..the dreaded vote of confidence. Probably can't afford to fire him.
http://realfakesports.blogspot.com/2009/08/mets-make-commitment-to-underachieving.html
Omar Minaya deserves to be fired for doing a lousy job the past few years. I hope they fire him early in the morning the way he fired Willie Randolph.
Bringing Omar back is a big mistake, I guess Mr. Wilpon doesn't want a winning franchise, I could put together a much better team with 1 tenth of what Omar gets paid.
Mr. Wilpon, I have realized one very important thing about your business leadership, you don't know when to cut your loses when you can. I realize we all can't blame this year totally on Omar or Manuel but allow me one quick question. Normally when the head of an organization stinks, it stinks from the head down. His decisions on who to trade for and how to build your farm system has to be totally blamed on him since he is running your baseball operations. Get some new and fresh blood in there to run the team. I hope you have a clear plan on re-organizing this team because your losing the die hard fans that have always supported the Met's. I guess when your seats begin to go empty you'll furst realize the error your making. I would take look at Beinfest of the MArlins, look what he does without any payroll, can you just imagine if he had a payroll behind him. In any event Mr. Wilpon Wake Up and Realize your making a terrible mistake keeping that pair of losers.
Time for new OWNERSHP!
Let a Mets Steinbrenner-type take over and clean house!
Where's Willie when we need him????
Brother, you couldn't be more correct!!!
The Wilpons doeas not cares about wining and losing, the Only cares about the $$$$$$$$$$ bills
they can get from the City Field, as for a wining teams, wait until somebody else buy the Team
Mr George Steinbrener buy the NY Mets and show the Wilpons how much baseball cares about wining
Go To Hell Omar Minaya and Jerry Manuel
It starts from the top, fred wilpon cares nothing about winning. omar minaya doesnt do anything , they always sign old tired players like delgado , beltran , pedro, sheffield. they have no heart a bunch of chokers . David wright chokes too he hits when theres nothing on the line, makes errors when they need a win, jose reyes always playing hurt. What they need is somebody that will kick some but. They need kieth hernandez or gary carter who know about winning. they need young players with heart show some drive care about winnging they sit on the bench and you cant tell if thier winning or loosing, it looks like well i get a paycheck so who cares the mets dont care. all i can say abaout the mets is choke, choke choke choke choke choke. ive been a fan since i was seven yrs old and i cant take it anymore. Im d
I gave up on the Mets when Omar Minaya fired Willie Randolph without any convincing reason. What has Jerry Manuel done that is so outstanding? Willie, who maintained a calming influence on the club, was falsely blamed and sacked as a gimmick to usher in a new image to the organization. But what are we witnessing today? It is time to re-organize the whole management team and bring in Willie; he must be shaking his head in disbelief.
