The Red Sox made a potential major upgrade to their bullpen Tuesday, acquiring Billy Wagner from the Mets for two players to be named later.Wagner, who is sixth all-time in saves with 385, was activated from the disabled list last week after almost a year of rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery. The left-handed reliever pitched two scoreless innings for New York, striking out four and walking one.
If Wagner is healthy and throwing like he did when he was closing for the Mets, the move will further strengthen Boston's already deep bullpen, giving Terry Francona an experienced setup option in front of Jonathan Papelbon and another southpaw to turn to in the late innings along with Hideki Okajima.
The Red Sox entered play Tuesday with the best bullpen ERA in the American League at 3.64.

Dale.......it's not 'to', it's 'too.' You know, like 'too demanding.'
Aren't you glad second grade is about to start up again.

Hey Dale,
There is a guy from Boston named James that critiqued your post. Actually, he believes because he lives in a city that houses Harvard, MIT, and Tufts that he is intellectually gifted.
An intelligent man is one that can converse at any level with any person of varying education and makes them feel comfortable.
James is so full of himself that he has the gall to embarass you with silly condenscending remarks.
Don't take his crticism to heart, for he is a narrow minded shallow excuse of a baseball fan that follows the Red Sox.

Lets face it people the Mets just plain suck this season and will suck the next too. All that money and nothing to show for it. New York has fame to some of the worst records in baseball. Give it up the whole team it a bunch of baboons. They need to fire manuel and get rid of Perez. They just plain stink!!!

He was placed on wavers and the redsox picked up the option for him at 3.5 plus two players to be named later. it's not counted as " a trade ". so the soxs have to pay him the rest of the money he was due this year, then he becomes a free agent and can play for whomever pays him the most next year...he just came off the disabled list ....he was on it for one year after having major " tommy john" surgery...... 3.5 MILLION... I don't think so !!!!!

As long as they don't ask him to pitch more than 1 inning a game, he'll be fine.

Wagner will be a fine compliment to the sox pen during the stretch run and hopefully into the playoffs!

I'm a die-hard Met fan. The Mets will be a bunch of losers for the next few years to come. Wagner is lucky he got out of this losing organization. Wilpon is cheap and Manuel and Minaya must go. Hey Fred, sell the team please. Your not getting my money.

Typical Mets. Trade the white guys that have fire and are competative. Keep the latin bums who have no heart. Los Mets=Los suckers=Los bums.

Hey Mets you need to get Daniel Bard as one of the prospects from this deal. You should also get centerfielder Reymond Fuentes. Don't let the Red Sox trick you into taking a lesser prospect. They hype up players who are not that talented.

Tito is doing his best to piss away Sox playoff chances by continually playing Varitek. His last two starts catching Beckett and Lester, neither with a win, prove that his presence makes no difference. Funny how he gets all the credit when pitchers win, but none of the blame when they lose. Unless Lowell is on his hands and knees, with Youk having to play third and VMart at first, Varitek should be doing little more than collecting splinters at the end of the bench.
