As Expected, Dayton Moore's Contract With Royals Extended Through 2014

As was reported by FanHouse's Ed Price last week, the Kansas City Royals are set to announce a contract extension for general manager Dayton Moore, possibly as soon as Monday night. The tentative agreement would keep Moore in Kansas City through 2014.

The news of Moore's extension is bound to get mixed reviews from Royals fans who have watched the team suffer through another losing season, but it's apparent that team owner David Glass still believes that Moore is the right man to help turn the franchise around.

While Moore hasn't been perfect in his decisions for Kansas City, I think a lot of the ill will directed towards him by a portion of Royals fans is due to the higher expectations placed on the team this season -- raised expectations that are a direct result of the work Moore has done since taking over.

Some longtime Royals observers may feel that this is the worst Royals team they've ever seen, but Kansas City does have a solid foundation in their starting rotation featuring guys like Zack Greinke, Gil Meche and Luke Hochevar. They've also got a nice young hitter in Billy Butler who is starting to come into his own and looks like the kind of player that could anchor the lineup for years to come.

So while Moore has possibly made some ill-advised choices in the last year, he's also only a few good decisions away from getting this Royals team back on the winning path, and now he has the time and security to make those decisions.
