Obama Hints at World Series Picks

Albert Pujols / Derek JeterSay what you want about health care or any other hot-button issue facing our country, but it's been a good year for Barack Obama, Presidential Prognosticator.

No. 44 correctly picked the Steelers in the Super Bowl in February and he nailed North Carolina as the national champion in his March Madness bracket. In other words, when the world's most famous White Sox fan hazards a sports prediction maybe we should all take notice.

While Obama has yet to make an official World Series prediction, he did hint strongly at who he likes this October on Meet the Press.

The President hailed Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols as "unbelievable" and Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter as "a classic" after he broke Lou Gehrig's franchise record for hits on the Sunday morning interview and public affairs show.

OK, so with that you can lightly pencil in St. Louis and New York as the presidential picks, and, hey, you could do a lot worse.

Entering play Sunday, the Cardinals and Yankees are a combined 82-37 since the All-Star break, good for a blistering .689 winning percentage. There aren't two hotter teams in baseball since the start of the second half.

In the interest of being fair and balanced, maybe someone should ask Obama's predecessor what his picks would be. After all, he does know a thing or two about the national pastime.
