Miguel Cabrera's facial cuts are a mystery no more. After the Tigers' win Sunday night, police gave a full report on just how the Tigers' slugger got his wounds. He was apparently out late on Friday night/Saturday morning, came home drunk, and got into a fight with his wife, which resulted in a 911 call from his wife at 6 AM Saturday. It gets worse; police came to Cabrera's house and picked the All-Star up and took him in for questioning, leaving Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski to pick him up from the station at 7:30 AM Saturday morning. Cabrera hasn't talked about the situation publicly, but it's safe to say that the rumors that the Tigers were upset with him are probably true.
The same report also says Cabrera blew at .26 BAC at the police station, which is more than three times the legal limit to drive of .08. So with the Tigers season on the line and their playoff chances shrinking daily, Cabrera was out drinking, got into a fight with his wife, and ending up being picked up by the team's GM at the police station.
On the bright side (if there is one), neither Cabrera nor his wife suffered serious injuries and neither wants to press charges. And the Tigers almost certainly benefit here from their one-game playoff against the Twins being moved to Tuesday, because this would make for one heck of a distraction if the game were Monday night.
Cabrera issued a short statement on the eve of Detroit's one-game playoff against Minnesota.
"There was an incident that took place on Saturday and it is a personal matter," he said. "I am sorry this has become a distraction, and I apologize to the Tigers, my teammates, and all of the fans. I would appreciate it if you would respect my family's privacy as I prepare for our next game."
UPDATE: The Detroit News has posted audio of the 911 call by Cabrera's wife, Roseangel.
The News also has the details of an August altercation at the same Birmingham, Mich.-area bar that the slugger was reportedly at this past weekend. Cabrera was warned to stay away from the establishment then after a confrontation with a man and a teen in which he intimated that he had a gun.
In the August incident, according to the information, a man told Birmingham police that he and an unnamed teen encountered Cabrera at the Rugby Grille on Aug. 31 about 6:30 p.m. Cabrera allegedly asked the teen, who weighs about 300 pounds, "What's up, big boy? You need to work out," according to the information provided to The News.
The teen then asked Cabrera to stop taunting him and said, "Let me be."
But it became confrontational, the man told police: Cabrera allegedly challenged the man and the teen. "Let's go right now. I'll fight both of you right now. Let's go outside." At one point, the man told police he felt that Cabrera intimated that he had a gun, saying he was going to go to his vehicle and get his "click-clack" and making a motion with his hands that he interpreted as the racking of a handgun.
Richard Fenton, the Tigers security representative, told police that he later searched Cabrera's vehicle and did not find a weapon, and he said Cabrera indicated he did not have a gun. The incident prompted the Tigers to hold a meeting with Cabrera, General Manager Dave Dombrowski and a team lawyer, Fenton told police. It was then that Cabrera was told to stay out of the Townsend.

As a Tiger fan, I am disappointed in Cabrera. I like him and think he has done a lot for the Tigers this season. But, as the article said, Detroit has been in a slide in the very end of the season, with pennant hopes in the balance. A true professional would have not been out partying on Friday night/Saturday AM with an important game that evening. Really poor.

Very sad. Why a role model and sports star would be out partying like that when he had a very important game that night. Also what frustrates me more is the fact that "no charges are pending" If both were aggressors and both had physical marks on their faces, BOTH should have been arrested. How can they let this "Domestic Violence" take place, report it, and yet the offenders face no consequence? DISGUSTING

How very selfish of Miguel. Of all times to do something stupid. This is a pennant race and we needed his bat desperately. As a Tiger fan I expect him to take better care of himself and be ready to produce. What a dissapointment.

I agree that Cabrera shouldn't have done "that". But on the other hand, it was a domestic dispute. Between a husband and a wife. Its nobody's business but theirs. He was not drinking and driving, he was drunk. Most of us adults have all been at least once in our lives, and most of us have all learned from it. I'm sure he will too.

you are correct that this is between a husband and wife. however....when you are a public figure, you are always in the limelight like it or not. and, whats worse, he did this while his team (his livelihood) is in the midst of a pennant race, thus letting down his team-mates and fans.
is this fair? of course not!! but, as i have learned and always taught my children, life is not fair. thats just the way it is.

You learn from your mistakes when you are FIRED! There should be significant consequences to poor decisions, not just the standard "most adults" have been drunk. Most adults are not being paid absurd amounts of money to play in a baseball game drunk!

I am appalled at his behavior - what excuses he has, there are none. If he wants to do drinking, wait until baseball is done - no help to the team with those reports coming on computer and also newspaper. I have lost what admiration I have had for him.

Cabrera should not be the blame if the Tigers loose this to the Twins. The whole team has gone cold and got too over confident. As for what Cabrera did he was wrong, If anything help your team win the division then go party, not before.

So by gametime on Sunday, this clown would have still blown over the legal limit.
He's lucky he didn't slam into a tree, or a pedestrian. What a joke. At THE critical moment of the season, this overpaid boy decided it was more important to get wasted than to get a good night's sleep and be with his family.
It's a shame he has but a blemish on one of sport's oldest and most respected teams.
I hope management has an escape clause in his contract to dump him and save the hundred million plus he signed for.
Bad enough in Detroit without his stupidity.

All of you silly people need to realize that your "role models" are humans and capable of making mistakes. Last time I checked, there was only one perfect person ever on this earth, so all of you shut up and quit being hypocrites!

Bluerange is right. We should forgive Mr. Dombrowski and even Mike Ilitch for taking a chance with $150 million dollars on a drunk; as you said, they are entitled to make a mistake.
As far as MC goes, don't for a minute think that I see him as a role model. Far from it.
But when you wear that uniform and cash those checks, you have a resposibility that is clearly higher than the one to which you hold yourself.
I don't drink and drive. What if he had killed your child, would you still be as willing to give the poor guy another chance?
Get out of the gray existence in which you and so many others live. We live in a country with laws as well as moral standards; although as your comment demostrates, not everyone understand that or is willing to exercise self restraint.
Good riddance to this guy.

We are all disappointed in Cabrera and his behavior but let this not be a distraction to the task in hand of winning the division. I am sure this story broke from someone that wants a distraction to take place to give Minnesota an edge.

JudKast...ha ha ha ha you really believe that? He should be held accountable for his actions. Don't try and blame this on someone else. We all make mistakes. Stand up and be a man Miguel. Accept the responsibilty and then move on. I hope he plays well and I also hope the Twins win.

Cabrera taunting a fat kid? That's like the kettle calling the pot black. Cabrera also give stress to the springs in both his bathroom scale and bed mattress. Cabrera is friends with Venezuelan commie dictator Hugo Chavez. Chavez likes to eat rats. I thought maybe Cabrera got scratched in the face while he was trying to eat a rat. So Cabrera was three times the legal limit over. Maybe he thought he could eat more because of he's heavy set. A few years back Cabrera also got into an altercation at the Venezuela night club in the off season.
