What can't David Wells do? The man has thrown a perfect game while hungover, is an analyst for TBS and now he's even a columnist for the New York Post. A columnist that is not shy about sharing his feelings about the fans of Philadelphia, particularly that they're "ruthless and rude."
With the World Series set to take place in the City of Brotherly Love for the next three games, Wells took his fingers to the keyboard to share his thoughts on Philadelphia for all to see. His words were not kind:
Those are just the first six sentences, and it goes on from there. Wells talks about the taunting he and the rest of the TBS crew received while broadcasting at Citizens Bank for the NLCS. He calls Philadelphians angry people, and rates the city as the top of his list for worst sports fans in the country, just ahead of Cleveland and Oakland."All the bad stuff you've heard about Philadelphia, site of the next three World Series games, is absolutely true.
"The people in that town would give The Finger to their own mom. That's how bad that town is.
"It's just incredible how ruthless and rude Philadelphia people are. They love their Phillies, but even Jimmy Rollins had a run-in with the fans earlier in the year and they started booing him. It's crazy."
To his credit, however, he doesn't mention anything about booing Santa Claus.

The truth does hit a nerve.
I was never a fan of Wells, but, he is on the money with his assessment of the Phillie fans.
Most are arrogant, vulgar, obnoxious, and know very little about the game.
With their team down 4 runs in the eight, what were they chanting?
The Yankees suck!!The Yankees suck!!!
Real nice people, especially the one guy holding his daughter on his shoulder and chanting the Yankees suck.
Hey Pedro, what do you think of these vulgar fans?

The TBS broadcast team was a disgrace in both the NLDS and NLCS. I would rather put up with Joe Buck and Tim McCarver then those clowns. David Wells adds nothing to TBS. You don't like our passion for our teams fine, go watch and report on the Royals or Nationals next season.

Since when is throwing a perfect game while being drunk, being a TV analyst, and writing a column make a guy able to do anything? (Mantle-- probably not the only one--outdid the perfect game thing by playing a HOF career with a hangover.) Dumb premise. When are the journalists.. scratch that ... writers ... scratch that ... bloggers ... scratch that... self-indulgent babblers with a by-line going to stop regurgetating things and/or changing actual fact into mundane commentary that is NOT backed by the experience and knowledge of an actual journalistic background?

I've been to Philly about 30 times in my life, as well as getting to 22 different stadiums -- Philly fans are the worst! Wells isn't saying anything too far from the truth.
And its not just with baseball. My wife had a TINY NJ Devils pin on a scarf about 5 years ago, as we went to a James Taylor concert in Philadelphia...Some guy behind us spilled beer on her saying "the Devils suck" - Want to respond to that, Philly folk?

Yo Wells
Too bad you are not capable of embracing the power of the average Philadelphia Sports fan. Bottom line...we love our teams...win or lose...we just love them. We know the sport. You can walk down any given street in Philly and your average 10 yr old, can tell you the names of at the very least the starters of all our teams and in some areas our big five college b-ball teams, too. Wells, get over yourself. You are fat and tbs sucks. Sorry, we are not about a wholelottafluff.

Some of NY fans are just as rude. It's a Northeast coridor thing not a Philadelphia thing. Most Philadelphia fans are not rude. Just some from certain areas just like in NYC. I live in Philly and love the passion that the city has for all its sports teams. It's a unique sports campus that gives the city's teams a college campus like atmosphere. People decorate their homes and everyone backs the teams. It's something no other city has. And I can live anywhere I want. I choose to live in Philadelphia because the city has so much to offer and people here can afford so much more than those in NY. The average person here in Philadelphia compared to New Yorkers vacation better, own more homes, have money saved and don't spend everything they make on the roof over their head. Which leaves more money for us to walk to the games and spend as much money as we want to on tickets.....PHILLY ROCKS!!!!!

David Well IS a WINNER.
Look you ignorant retards there in Philly at his post season numbers and his career accomplishments. Outside of the newly acquired Cliff Lee (who is excellent, and classy), Steve Carlton, Jim Bunning, and Robin Roberts your town hasn't had a pitcher in the last 50 years of Wells's pedigree.
And he is 100% right. Pa. natives (Ardmore to be exact) who are friend's of mine went to the NL Pennant clincher and told me in NY that the behavior of the fans leaving the ballpark was foul and disgusting with vile, and trash language all in the presence of young kids and families. Philly has always had a classless fan base. The only notable class acts to come out of Philly were Ben Franklin, Princess Grace, Joe Frazier ( a real man of courage), Mike Scmidt, and Richie Ashburn. The rest of you are socially deprived and bad behaving fans.
Go Yanks! And yeah Rollins, Philly in '5" you say. Ha!

Not only were the philthy(lol)fans chanting yankees suck, but when they took the 3-0 lead they were chanting New York sucks. Whether you are a yankees fan or a Mets fan, stand behind our great city and root root root for the Yankees. CC will mow down the philthies later tonight and then AJ can finish it in Philthadelphia or we maybe the yanks be nice(How do u like it Rollins?)and let it go to game 6 and finish it in a real city! Like Sinatra sang NewYork NewYork!

I lived in that area for 22 years. The fans are the absolute worst. The minute there team loses they dog them so bad. I lived next to Flyers players who said how much they hated playing for Philadelphia. One particular child went to school with my son his father played for the Flyers if his father didn't have a good game the next day the kids would abuse this kid to the point of tears. You know they learned this from there parents. They chase all there great athletics out of there. Charles Barkley, Allen Iverson and T.O for example. There a 2nd rate city. The only thing good about Phillie is Cheese steaks, pretzels and the Liberty bell.
