PHILADELPHIA -- A.J. Burnett is scheduled to start Game 5 of the World Series for the Yankees on Monday, manager Joe Girardi announced on Sunday. Burnett would be going on three days rest for the first time this season, although he's had some success on short rest in his career. The decision was not a surprise, because the other alternative was Chad Gaudin, who has pitched just one inning this postseason. It now appears the Yankees are going to use only three starters throughout the playoffs. Andy Pettitte would be starter on three days' rest in Game 6, but Girardi said he'd have to check with Pettitte in the coming days before finalizing that.
"Our guys feel good this time of year," Girardi said. "We took it easy on them -- that's probably a bad way to state it. We tried to give them som extra rest in the month of September, and they've had some extra rest during the playoffs and we thought that was very important."
Burnett has made four starts on three days' rest, including three last year with Toronto, and he is 4-0 with a 2.33 ERA. Burnett was the winning pitcher in Game 2. He gave up one earned run in seven innings of the Yankees' 3-1 victory.
The Phillies will send Cliff Lee to the mound on Monday. There was some discussion among the media about whether Charlie Manuel should have used Lee on three days' rest for Sunday's Game 4, but Manuel said it was never really a consideration because Lee had never done it.
"You're asking Clff Lee to do something that he has never done before, but we're also asking him to do it in a very big, important place, and that's in the World Series," Manuel said. "I didn't have to think very long at all about that, and neither did [pitching coach Rich] Dubee."
Lee said that Manuel asked him if he had ever pitched on three days' rest, and that was the extent of the conversation.
"I let him know that I'd pitch whenever he wants me to pitch," Lee said. "I think I could do it, but he makes the calls."

Sounds like a very bad case of SORE LOSER!!!!
Some key observations for you:
1) Most teams had guys using steroids.
2) Money doesn't guarantee success.
3) The Yankees always reinvest in their product, not like other teams which pocket their profit.
4)Without a competitive a Yankee team, the ratings would be absymal just like last year which had the lowest rated world series of all
time.
5) This team is a tough never give up type of team with a bunch of good guys.
6) Give some credit to the Phillies for an exciting game tonight. They are good and tough out.
Stop with the excuses and enjoy the game.

Okay for the umpteenth time, Posada, Rivera, Jeter, Pettite, Cabrera, Gardner, Chamberlain, Hughes, Cano are all Home Grown players.
A home grown player won it. A home grown player saved it.

after al the crap phillies fans where talking,,,, instead of just hoping the phillies will win it all. rollins thinking hes playing the mets saying that his team will win it in 5 games. philly fans predicting the win no matter what kind of money nyy make,, now the phils are more than halfway out the door the money comments come back...lololololol thats the sore loser fans,,, cant beat the yankees ohh well then ill attack there payroll...its pathetic,,, its a pussies way out,, dont blame ny for being a monster media market,, the yankees name alone can buy philly. yankee owner puts his money back into the franchise. not like most mlb owners who rather pocket thiers and hope their farm system can do it for them.. then when they get there farm system players playing top notch baseball they sell them off to the highest bidders.. blame your owners.. write a letter,, not that it will make a difference because there arent many owners like stienbrenner who cares about theyankees and the fans....

I'm somewhat of a neutral party here, as I'm a fan of the Detroit Tigers/Red Wings.....but I'm rooting for the Yankees in this series. I'm a little dubious the Yankees can pull out another win tomorrow, but I must admit it would be AWFULLY NICE. GO YANKEES!!!!!

THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE TRUE PHILLY FANS BUT THOSE THAT SHOULD RESPECT BASEBALL FOR WHAT IT IS.

Typical Philly sore losers. There are 13 teams with wealthier ownership than the Yanks...the Steinbrenners care about their fans and invest in their team, while the 13 richer owners pocket the money and leave their fans twisting in the wind. AS for the Yanks, the heart of the team: Jeter, Rivera, Posada and Pettite are all home grown, along with Melky, Cano and Gardner. The team of the 90's was all homegrown and trades... so stop whining Philly and try to show the Yanks more respect than that loudmouth Rollins did. Class usually wins out in the end... Jeter knows this, Rollins does not.
Tex, A-Rod and CC are beating you guys, the HOME GROWN TALENT is... so deal with it, losers
