New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has achieved many things since beginning his career in the Big Apple. He's won four World Series championships -- and is only a win away from his fifth -- a World Series MVP in 2000, three Gold Gloves and is a 10-time All Star. He's also a New York institution and Yankee legend with the likes of Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio and Babe Ruth. Except there's one thing Jeter may end up with that none of those other Yankee heroes had. There are plans to have a bridge named after him in New York.
Bronx leaders have proposed naming the soon-to-be-built East 153rd Street bridge for the Yankee shortstop.
"There have been conversations at the community board, and I know the idea is being examined," said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., a Bombers fan who confesses to a "man crush" on the Captain.
"It's something I am ready to support. We're moving on it."
The 512-foot-long "Derek Jeter Bridge" would span the Metro-North tracks that bisect East 153rd Street between Park Avenue and the Grand Concourse. It will cost $87 million.
So Jeter's bridge will cost less than Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira and Jeter himself. There is no word on what kind of UZR rating the bridge will have, but since it's a bridge, I doubt it will have all that much range to its left. Still, its intangibles are off the charts.

It's going to be named 'Jeter's Chocolate Tunnel.'
Rumor has it that A-Rod will be the first to pass through it since he already knows the way.

This is not a comment about this article although I am a big fan of his. This is directed to the 4 idiots who do the pregame, especially the 1 with the glasses. He claimed he did his homework on AJ, he must have dropped out of school then because AJ is 4 and 0 on 3 days rest. This guy is and has been throughout this series a complete idiot as well as the Phillie fans.

Very well put, BUT it could be worse, WE could have JOE MORGAN doing the play by play...He can give asprins a headache with his stories about "the big red machine"..

Could be worse, Chris Wheeler, the schmuck we Phillies fans are stuck with, could be commentating the series. That horse's arse never played the game in his life, and neither of the late greats: Richie Ashburn or Harry Kalas could stand him (which is all that needs to be said).

idiot "Phillie" fans? Everyone rags on Philly, but for no reason. New York fans are total idiots and very unclever. People in Philly just have passion and show it, while New Yorkers are just obnoxious.

I think the bridge is going to be called Jeter's Cheaters. It will have A- Roids name in lights and his brother hemmoroids. Or was that his cousin, who we don't know and gave him Bolo.

I have to agree with Bill. I am a die-hard life long Phillies fan, but even more than that I am a baseball fan. Derek Jeter is a damn good ball player and a great ambassador for the sport...even if he is a Yankee.

Boy it sure is funny when 16 Yankees are on the 1st streoid list, and no Yankees fan want to admit that or talk about it..But when Barry Bonds , Manny Ramirez , and David Ortiz are on there, it's ok to laugh and make comments about them. If the Yankees win, do we see an asterik next to their name ? I recall Yankee fans wanting that next to Bond's name.I rather have Cal Ripken as my shortstop any day. He didn't have any drug users on his team his whole career. So who cares if they name a bridge after Jeter. Hope it's in a dump.

Sure Rookie - Ripken may have been a clean player but his teammates - not so much. He played with Rafael Palmeiro for several years. There have also been rumors about Brady Anderson.
Now, I'm no Yankee fan - but it sounds like a cool idea. You can call home - Hi Hon, i'll be home in 10 minutes, I'm just going over the Jeter now. I wonder if they'll paint it pinstriped.
