Joba Chamberlain's Mother Facing Prison

As the Yankees prepare for Game 6 of the World Series at home Wednesday, short reliever (at least for the postseason) Joba Chamberlain may be a bit distracted by an off-field issue. His mother, Jackie Standley, pleaded no contest to felony drug charges Monday and is facing up to 20 years in prison.

Standley was arrested back in May after selling methamphetamine to an undercover police officer and is charged with delivery of a controlled substance. She will be sentenced Dec. 16, pending recommendation from a drug and alcohol treatment center.

Chamberlain, 24, is a key cog in the Yankees' bullpen as they look to close out the Phillies for their 27th World Series championship. He has allowed just a solo home run in two World Series innings, retiring every other batter and striking out three. While he's known about his mother's arrest for a while, the news that she may be facing 20 years could have an effect on his psyche. The two have reportedly been estranged for a while, due to her drug and alcohol problems, though Chamberlain has reportedly said, "She's still my mom and I still love her."

Standley, on the other hand, is going through enough on her own that the World Series is likely far from her most pressing thoughts. She's also been in trouble for leaving threatening messages on a woman's cell phone and has admitted to not being a very good mother. For now, she'll await her lengthy jail sentence.

Ha HAHAHAHAHAHA Now we know why J(Sl)abba(The Hut) was cought drinking and driving. Wouldn't be funny and ironic if Slabba(The Hut) was imprisioned for DWI and his mother too,they can share a jail cell. Like mother like son.

Joba can no more help what his mother has done than stopping the rain. Joba has risen above that kind of life an amazing young man. I congratulate him for that. Anyone who makes crappy remarks about him are jealous. Eat you heart green monsters, you just wish it was you.
