With Alex Gonzalez signing with the Blue Jays, the market for Marco Scutaro has heated up over the holiday weekend. Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe is reporting that the Red Sox, Dodgers, and Mariners are all interested in the veteran infielder now that the Blue Jays have filled his position and assured that he won't return to Canada in 2009. Scutaro is slated to be a Type-A free agent and the Jays are all but certain to offer him arbitration, meaning that if any of the three teams mentioned above sign him they'd have to give up their first-round draft pick for the ability to do so. That's a pretty good indication that the interest in Scutaro is strong and he should be able to pick his new home for 2010.
Scutaro is historically a poor hitter with a career OPS of .721, but by UZR he rates out as about average defensively at second base and third base and though he's slightly below average for his career at shortstop, he graded out as above average there for the A's in 2007 and the Blue Jays in both 2008 and 2009.
That makes him a versatile defender (each of the teams interested in him is interested in him at a different position, Boston wants him at short, L.A. wants him at second, Seattle wants him at third). When you couple that with a career year at the plate in 2009 (a career best .379 OBP and .409 SLG), it appears that he's created quite a market for himself.

Unless Theo comes up with something big--and I mean the cops chasing him for "stealing" from some other team in a trade, he's GONE. He has cost this team millions.
are you joking!? two world series rings and he's cost them millions?
